Reviews for Drayton Arms
I went the Drayton Arms for Sunday lunch today. I must say I was dreading it at first, as the reviews I’d seen didn't say many nice things about it. I was surprised by how lovely it looked from the outside. This might have more to do with the location that any real effort the owners have made. The inside was dark and a little worn out. And what's with the mish-mash chairs? The open fire is a big plus but why is it by the loos? The service was slow, glasses dirty. The food taster great, better if I got more gravy though. Go if you are:
- In the area
- 20 something bloke looking to meet the local posh girls
- Looking for a pub a little out the way that you can eat and read the Sunday papers at without the crowds.
I was invited by friends on trusted places to celebrate a sunday lunch in October. There was a real lack of harmony in the kitchen I would guess. The only barperson had lost her voice and was clearly overworked. I have never seen so many empty glasses in an occupied pub as punters tried to get another drink. It appeared there had been a rush for lunch. I counted 30 covers all finished and waiting for service. Four of our group got lunch the remaining six were told there was no more fresh veg, or roast. We were invited to wait until the next service at 1700.We ordered at 1700 and were fiven the wrong food with a take it or leave it attitude.
This pub needs more staff a tiny bit of tidying up i.e.furniture and toilets and it could be as good as the other reviews say but for the moment I could not recommend it.
This is a great pub-- dark, beautiful, comfortable, amazing food (try the sticky toffee pudding), and pretty reasonable drinks. Quiz night is an experience, too.
What I like about the Drayton Arms is first its high ceilings and the clear comfortable and cosy Victorian pub feel it has to it. The pub attracts your locals from South Kensington and is a great place to simply chill out and enjoy the sun in their outdoor section. I'll remember this pub as this is also where I watched France beat Portugal during the World Cup!
