Reviews for The Good Mixer
The two previous posters (blondie_wandie & papayoyo) have, at least, a sense of humour; but, to give The Good Mixer five stars is madness.
Its location in Camden Town, beside one of the largest mens' hostels in Europe, tells it all. It is the recreation room for that hostel which accommodates some very needy individuals who deserve help and pity, more than ridicule.
For years, service and hygiene standards have been very low - and sometimes, an effort is made to provide musical entertainment.
A busy fruit and vegetable market is just outside the pub; the traders are daily customers - less than articulate ones. One star is generous, really.
Me and my housemate got a tip off that this place was great- we headed over from our house in Twickenham ( about 1hr 30mins away) and it quickly became our 'local'.
The ambience is great- its very cosy and the bar staff couldnt be friendlier. Some of the people at the bar were a bit obnoxious but you could have a laugh at their expense with the staff.
If you head over to the good mixer, you must try the Rickstacy and Illusion. The Rickstacy is a banana cocktail and is awesome..the illusion is a pint of green cocktail and you will only need one to knock you out completely. And it costs about 4.50. Bargain.
Amy Winehouse's regular and for good reason! Where else in London can you check in after a stroll through the market and enjoy a great jukebox, a pint of Guinness, a game of pool, and the company of the Camden's finest hip and groovy young alcoholics? Oh and they have a lovely collection of horse paintings on the walls, the scruffiest decor of any pub in London, lot's of beggars outside from the local hostel, toilets that leave much to be desired, but none of that matters because, you see, this is the world famous (in certain circles), cool and incomparable Mixer! At the weekends the huge crowd gathered outside has a festival atmosphere and it's the best place to find out the latest gossip, parties, happenings in Camden. It's located on Inverness Street, the Sunset Strip of Camden and has the lovliest Scottish doorman in the world, Alan. Say hello to him next time you go.
5 stars for a statement like this ?
It was almost uncanny for me to step foot into The Good Mixer in Camden Town last Friday evening. Being heavily into Britpop bands during the 90s, you couldn't stop hearing about The Good Mixer and read about it in the NME. In fact, one of my favourite bands were discovered by Jarvis Cocker at this very bar.
The Good Mixer is still popular this day with a diverse group of customers. You'll have your hipsters, indiekids, the rockabillies, the rocker, students, jocks but a good mix of people. It goes without saying, of course, good music. Though they were playing some cheesy 90s dance hits that night but everyone was all for it. Small patio outside, there are two rooms but I only stayed in the main room. Wooden décor with Elvis pictures and autographed band photos. The usual drafts on tap. Staff work quite quickly and the wait for a drink isn't too long.

Had a 'short' drink in the Mixer last night; all toilet cubicles (only 2 in mens); both unflushed (more than once); offered drugs (twice); two women 'out of it' sitting with legs wide open; 'its got lots of character'...you say.
Truth/accuracy is important; the lack of these is affecting your site which we see - on other sites - is losing its status. All, especially 'company posters' should tell it as it really is. Why not..free meals/drinks ?
