Sunday Jazz
Seductive, sumptuous, pink, pleasure. All words that pop into your head when you enter Kinky Mambo. I'd often walked past its black exterior and wondered what was behind its florescent pink name. The first thing you notice are the walls, with the beautiful female form being almost risqu in her influence. But then what's risqu when burlesque is mainstream?
We dropped in around 11 after dinner at Le Mercury 3 doors up. Sunday night is a hard one to carry on with, but we found an hours solace in this pink pocket of a jazz club/cocktail lounge. Open until 12 it had a great 4 piece band lead by Pete Saunders who sings and plays keys the sound is New Orleans Blues and they play the familiar jazz favourites in this style smooth.
My group consisted of a few wine fuelled barmen and they were well impressed by the bramble and the bartenders execution of a number of others off the list including a their bar test favourite of the amaretto sour.
All in all it's pretty in pink, and smooth in style. I can't wait to go back on a Saturday for some of the 70's funk and disco they play, that should suit the dcor immaculately.
