A gem of a pub in N6
Highgate has loads of Pubs and very few restaurants, so the Pubs have turned their attention to serving food.
The Red Lion and Sun is building a fantastic reputation. Not only is the food cooked very well, but the menu is changed regularly and it is not overpriced like the Bull down the road.
There are open fires, a puppy and free internet access.
I liked everything about this pub, the staff are well trained.

Nice Pubs on earth

Great Place
My friends and I were so glad when this place opened and we now venture there pretty often.
The drinks aren't expensive and the good food is very reasonable (especially for London). The Sunday roast is also devine!
Weekday evenings tend to be nicely chilled and it gets busier at the weekends when it's open late (very good). The decor is lovely and they've got some nice comfy seating in now too.
The beer gardens were great in the Summer and I can't wait to use them (hopefully more!) next year. I think there's is an outdoor heater on one of the tables.
A great pub that I'd recommend to anyone.

My first 'regular' haunt
I LOVE this place.
I've never been a real 'bar fly' before as I find most pubs unfriendly and a bit intimidating, but this place was so welcoming to my partner and I that we just keep coming back.
The food is really cheap but great quality, all cooked fresh and using great meat from Highgate Butchers... none of those horrid ready meals you get in other pubs.
Also, the drinks are quite cheap.
They close dead late (about 2am) and have beer gardens for the summer and open wood fires for the winter.
Simply great.

THE PUB
Hi Kerry Ann,
I am sorry that you feel that the pub is now characterless. I have had a lot of stick from old regulars at the change I have done to the pub. Everyone harps on about the pub being traditional! It was only 10 years ago the pub was refurbished to what everyone called traditional. When we doing our refurbishment we discovered the greatest tragedies and cons. All that tongue and groove panelling was only done 10 years ago. All those antique style pictures on the wall! FAKE cut out of a book! The place basically was an English version of TGI Fridays.
What I tried to achieve was a place that celebrated its traditional style by using colours from the Edwardian period and furniture to suit. I also wanted a place without T.V's, fruit machines etc.
For me a pub is a place where you meet and make new friends and socialize with all age groups young to old, rich to working class. Before the pub appealed to a very small group of people. Now I believe it appeals to a much wider range of people. I am having lots of positive comments now and 99% people are very happy to drink and eat here.
The pub is still a work in progress and over the next few months with more time on my hands it will take shape. So I hope you will pop in soon to see the changes happen and then let me know what you think

This was a great traditional pub which was a welcome relief as most in Highgate have been turned into characterless bars. Sadly, in May 2007 this little gem had a refurbishment and looks like it has suffered the same fate.
