Parliament Square, London, SW1P 3AD

Possibly the most famous clock face and chimes in the world, Big Ben is actually the name of the biggest bell (13.5 tons) inside The Clock Tower (320 ft) which forms part of the Houses of Parliament. Built in 1858/9 the bell was named after one Sir Benjamin Hall and when it was cast it was Britain's heaviest bell. The clock's four dials each have a diameter of 23 ft, the minute hands are 14 ft long and the numerals on each face are nearly 2ft high.

Reviews for Big Ben

Big ben is such a wonderful place to see, you need to park the car and get out to go see it in its full glory, or better still take the bus and drive past to take in its breath taking beauty. The clock tower is huge in real life and it is the clock bell that carries the name not the building. every thing is right here, the houses of parliament, the london eyer, west minster bridge, need I say more. If you have not seen it all for your self then you really should, it is a great day out and you will enjoy milling around with the crowd as we did.

Big Ben is a huge clock tower attached to the Houses of Parliament on the Thames River in London. It is famous worldwide, and when you see it in real life you will know why. As impressive as it looks in pictures, it is even more impressive in real life! It is bigger that I even thought it would be, and is a sight you should make sure you see at night as well as during the day, because at night it is all lit up and looks fantastic. It is just across the river from the London Eye so if you go on that you can then pop across the bridge and see it closer up. There are loads of tourists around of course, but they don't get in the way since the clock tower is so huge!

The Clock Tower, knowned as The Big Ben, is as majestic as I expected. The silhouette, the golden image, the size and all the environment around astonished me, because it was one of my dreams to be right in front of Big Ben.

There's just something about it. Hear it chime while walking along the Thames. Looking straight up at it from the sidewalk. Another great view is from inside the fence of the Houses of Parliament (which you can visit for free!).

An excellent place which was full of tourists and was spectacular at night when the clock faces are illuminated
