Reviews for London Eye
The London eye is an essential part of the London skyline along with the BT tower and the Gherkin and Big Ben and countless other sights, and has been since it was erected to commemorate the millennium. I have only been on the London eye once but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The eye is located near embankment and really is very hard to miss. The observation wheel enables one to see vast swathes the London metropolis. It is worth noting that with a tusaudes season pass one is able to visit the eye an unlimited number of times without having to pay anything extra. All in all well worth a at least one visit
When I first saw this I wondered what it was all about. It didn’t seem to fit in, this big white metal wheel overlooking the historic and majestic looking Houses of Parliament next to the Thames.
But we decided to take the plunge and go on it.
We paid the small mortgage to get the tickets and after hearing other people who had just got off the wheel saying to buy the program and map before you go on, which we did (another small mortgage gone), on we went.
The wheel itself turns really slowly and you basically stand in a small capsule, a bit like a circular greenhouse with a bench to sit on in the middle.
As the wheel rotates your capsule gradually lifts into the air to the very top of the wheel and it is then that you really appreciate what it is all about.
We used the map to identify the various landmarks around London and the views across London are amazing and breath taking.
The journey itself takes around 30 minutes, so your time at the top for the best view is only a few minutes.
OK, it seems expensive at first, but in my opinion it is worth it for the views alone even allowing for the heavy waiting on the cost because it is a top London attraction.
Unless you have been living in a cave you know the london eye is a giant ferris wheel on the bank of the thames. But if you haven’t been on it you wont know that this is the most stable ferris wheel there is, you will feel no judders or motion so have no fear! Also you go in walk in giant pods which can easily hold 15 people and there is a bench in the middle. Its very slow moving and is a marvelous feet of engineering. You at no time feel unsafe or afraid. The eye gives a great view of london, go on a clear day and you can see for miles. London is quite a flat city really so the views are very far reaching. The main recommendation I can give is that you do what we did, it was a freezing cold day when we arrived and the queues were about an hour long. Rather than stand there getting a cold we paid the extra (30 each?) to have a VIP pass, this meant me got walked straight onto the eye by a security rep and didn’t have to queue at all. It may seem a lot of money but just think what you can do with the time you save. Plus it makes you feel important! When you go into the long ticket room you can buy the vip passes right at the very end kiosk. Its worth it.
ok tourist people, this one is pretty much the symbolism of londons hysteria, while its just another ferris wheel with a view of london, it expensive for a ride, but hey wen you are in good company i dont think many of us ll notice and jus ve a good time, true as many other reviewers u cud get a bit dizzy at d top also recommended to c in d night as u cant trust london weather to be sunny always so night time is a safe bet.
i went here on new years and although new years is a long time away this is one time to see d london eye with all the great effects in all of its splendour, the experience and frenzy of the criwds is highly recommended.
Whilst away in London on a work related trip, myself and some colleauges found ourselves with a little time to spare in the early evening. As we weren't far from the eye we decided that we would do somethng touristy and experience the wonder of the eye.
It is fairly expensive - around the £15 mark which gets you roughly half an hour. Luckily when we went for tickets there was hardly a queue and so we decided to get the normal tickets rather than the more expensive 'fast track type'.
When going on the eye there are 2 lanes to queue in one for fast track and one for ordinary tickets. The crazy thing was we actually got on quicker than the fast track tickets as there were more people in that queue so it doesn't always make sense to go for the more expensive type unless you go at a really busy time.
The experience itself was magical - we went at dusk when all the lights were coming on in the surrounding area. The eye moves so slowly you could be forgiven for thinking it is not moving. The view outside is just breathtaking - most people take a camera with them to capture the experience. You can actually buy a photo at the end of the ride as there are facilities withing the pod where they take a random photo of the inside but this is expensive and the photo of our pod seemed to be mainly of the backs of our heads!
The only drawback to this experience was that it passed too quickly so the next time I am in London it will be something I do again - touristy or not!!
I would have to recommend this to anybody who loves a good view.
I went on for the first time around a week ago, and went at night time.
It was AMAZING.
The view when we reached the top of the ride was amazing! I could see all the different areas of london, and it was beautiful, because it was night time, the whole city was lit up, it was fantastic.
I wouldn't however, recommend this to people who have a thing about heights, however small. I'm usually fine with heights, but still felt a little woozy at the top. lucky I got over this and managed to enjoy the ride.
Also, when your on the way back down. it is a little boring because you've already seen the rest of the view, and are usually a little bored.
all in all, highly recommended
I've been on the Eye twice now, with a few years in between, and enjoyed both rides (sorry, flights) immensely.
Let's start with the negatives. Firstly, it's expensive. For an individual it's pricey but ok. Pay up for a whole family and it will have you clutching your wallet more closely than usual. Especially if you don't want to wait and decide to go "fast track". Because that's the second negative. It's always jam packed. The queue for tickets is only the beginning, because the queue for the ride is as long again (actually longer, because there you are joined by all the wise people who called, booked through their hotel or over the internet in advance).
But once you get to the head of the queue - well, you have to go and see for yourself. Really magnificent.
The last ride I took on it was a Champagne Flight and if you have something, anything, to celebrate it's worth the extra money for the pleasure of on almost empty pod and a couple of glasses of bubbly as you float above London.
The London Eye is a place only to be visited once. Unfortunately I've been three times which meant the excitement had gone. It is good for seeing London but can be quite boring as there is nothing more. It is worth going and seeing however. People that are scared of heights may or may not enjoy this as my boyfriend was terrified but I on the other hand did not get scared and we're both scared of heights. It is worth going to see and doesnt cost much.
This is a must do for any visitor to London or indeed any Londoner. The veiw of the city you get from the top of this huge one hundred and thirty five metre wheel id absolutly awesome. On a clear day you can see right accross London to Windsor castle on the horizon one way and the Queen Elizibeth the second bridge at dartford the other. The pods are quite big and fit around fifteen to twenty people comfortably although at busy periods they do try to pack them in a bit more so get there early if you can. The staff are very security orientated - every bag is checked and all the pods are checked when one set of people get off before a new set get on. The eye moves very slowly and you do not realise you are at the top until you start coming down again. The veiws are magnificent I would recommend this to anyone.
A must do for anyone visiting London. It takes 30 minutes and goes very slowly, allowing you to see some fabulous sites of London. To be honest for what it is I think it's quite expensive, but it is London and you'll probably only do it once so a trip to London probably isn't complete without a flight. You can get lots of different combinations like boat trips, champagne or pimms to go with it as well. Besides the experience, you can only admire the architecture of the wheel, it’s massive…at the top especially is amazing! It’s a tourist attraction in terms of the sight, but no commentary or food is allowed on board, so it’s pretty tranquil and a nice 30 minute break from the busyness of London!
