Reviews for Neasden Temple
This place is for those Hindu believers who believe in the Lord Swaminarayan. It is the biggest Hindu temple outside India. Very beautiful with great scenery. It has a lot of history to it too. The people there are more than willing to explain to tourists the story behind it all. Great place to visit in Neasden!
One of the modern architectural wonders of Great Britain, vying with The Brighton Pavilion.
The grand white Temple, the sort you expect to find amid trees on a hilltop, stands incongruously in the middle of a city road surrounded by small, dark, modest closely packed housing.
The carving is breathtaking. I did a tour. You have to abandon your shoes. (I always try to surreptitiously pack mine into a bag I can carry, not so much out of fear of having my shoes stolen, but because of the difficulty of finding them or the delay in retrieving them.)
We were given free vegetarian food on our tour. I bought postcards.
I enjoyed the stories from the classic book. And the morals.
I was most interested to hear how the statues were merely statues when first carved, but became holy after a religious ceremony. A blessing or a prayer by a special person- I can't remember exactly but you get the idea.
Peaceful and inspiring. I was also impressed by the size. And by the number of social activities for all ages, under one roof, attracting youngsters to do everything from music and dance and computing and exercise, so that they met like-minded young friends for socialising, in a place where their parents could supervise, and oversee potential marriage partners. Seemed a great idea.
This temple is one of the seven modern wonders of Great Britain. The architectural beauty is simply stunning, and the marble glows differently in different lights – almost like the Taj Mahal. Bizarrely, this temple is located in an ordinary residential street, so that you drive past ordinary houses and suddenly encounter it – a real shock to the system!
You can find times of visits and see more pictures of the venue online (just Google Neasden Temple) and there really is a lot to see! If there is a holy day coming up this can be an excellent time to visit, as there are sometimes feasts for visitors and worshippers. Check, however, as some holy days may mean that the temple is closed.
A wonderful, peaceful day out.
Neasden Temple is a place of worship for Swaminarayans. For non-believers it has become one of most fascinating tourist attraction of London. It is near Neasden in London, hence commonly known as Neasden Temple. Anyone is allowed to visit the Temple provided they follow a few rules while in the Temple. The entrance is free and I have found it to be a very serene and calmness emitting place - when sitting in the temple. Some of the observations one should consider if planning a visit there are that shows must be removed in designated areas, shorts are not allowed and neither are skirts that are above knee high. You will be pleasantly surprised at the World leaders who have visited the Temple while in London.
