Reviews for Elif
Delicious food - wheelchair friendly - fair prices - looking forward to returning.
At first I was a little disappointed with this restaurant, as I had looked forward to going because I thought the food would be really tasty and unusual, plus when you go inside the smells are to die for. However the food was a little more bland than I expected. They have a variety of chicken and lamb dishes, or choose a mixture. and they come with a portion of rice and salad. The food was nice, just the flavours were a bit more subtle than I expected. However the deserts were delicious! I would definitley go again and maybe just order desert. They have unusual deserts, the sort with shredded pastry, sryrup, crushed pistaccio nuts etc - very sweet and tasty, not too sickly either. We also ordered some sort of tower desert, with layers of chocolate. Both were good anyway!
Elif is a small restaurant on Lark Lane that offers great Turkish charcoal barbecued food.
The menu is not vast, but offers a good selection of meat, fish and vegetarian options, starting from £8. All mains come with huge side dishes of rice and salad. If none of the mains take your fancy, you can just order a selection of starters meze style, for about £3 - £4 each.
The service is very friendly, not pushy, but not very fast nor professional.
Not fine dining but very good value for money and enjoyable food.
Watch out, it gets quite busy, arrive early.
Lark lane is one of those roads which has amazing choice for restaurants. The reason we decided to go to Elif was the smoky charcoal grill that we could smell from the other side of the road!
On the menu, you can find the usual turkish dishes, i.e. various kebabs, humous, tabouleh, grilled fish etc, most of which are cooked on the charcoal grill to the side of the restaurant, yum :D Portions are average-sized although if you get the fish of the day, you get a whole fish which can be quite filling.
To share between 3, we got a selection of starters and a main each with 1 dessert and coffee which came to about £60 which is really good value I think. I would advise to come early as we went on a weekday at about half six and it filled up pretty fast.
