We eat at Kayal at least three times a month, and have done since it was Halli (the vegetarian run by the same people). The service is excellent, with waiting staff who are genuinely friendly and eager to please. The decor is not pretentious but very pleasant.
And best of all the food is just wonderful! (And very good value.) The cuisine is 'udupi', South Indian and so rather different from the more usual Punjabi/Gujerati/Bengali. Here it is made with flair and great care; fresh ingredients and fresh spices melded to make superb dishes. There is a good range of seafood, but plenty of veggie choices and some meat dishes too - all of which are great. If you can't decide ask what the special board means, the dish of the day is usually particularly good.
I can't recommend Kayal too highly!
There is a sister retaurant in Nottingham.
In Leicester there is often comedy in the function room upstairs.

We have tried a Kerala restaurant called Kayal in Leicester. We think it is great and the best Asian cuisine we ever had. We recomend anyone to Kayal at 153 Granby street, also we heard that they have another Kayal in Nottingham.
