Reviews for Jakes Bar & Grill
What's happened to the doormen on this place. My friend and i had been going to Jake's Bar for a couple of months and quite enjoyed it. The last twice the two doormen have suddenly decided not to let us in anymore. Stating the, rather feeble excuse of "Sorry not dressed appropriateley" Maybe understandable if we hadn't been wearing exactly the same clothing we had the week before, when there was no problem getting in. Where's the professionalism here? Two refusals is enough. We will not be going back again.
This USED to be a great bar, what happened? well they think they dont have to try anymore and that they can be abusive and threatening. Avoid unless you want a fight with staff and their "mates" who seem to get in the place regardless of how drunk and disrespectfull they are.
The letdown is if you actually get in the place that is... empowered thugs, portraying themselves as doormen with NO identity? What are they hiding? so all in all...if you want and I quote baldy bouncer from Saturday 25th July 2009" I will take you down the alley (across from Jakes Bar) where there are no cameras and snap your neck" nice........ AVOID
Shame jakes bar is spoilt by the poor reputation of the doormen, having witnessed their unproffessional actions when refusing entry to ok people and when questioned why the reply was move on before I punch you. When requested doormans , licience number he said it had dropped off.
I love Jakes!!! And I wish we had a bar like that in Cologne!
The music played in Jakes is the newest Indie stuff and classics as well. If you like that kind of music there's no better place to stay at the weekend or even during the week.
It's quite busy at the weekend, but there's is always space to dance to the awesome music.
The bar stuff is quite fast and friendly and crazy too as they sometimes start dancing at the bar :-D
Go to Jakes and you are going to have a great night out!
Jakes bar is located on the Calls opposite Norman and on the same side as brb and oporto. It does however, draw in a really different crowd to these trendy spots. As most reviewers have mentioned it plays nothing but indie, which is great, do you want to hear the Killers when you go out? Then come here! It has a very different atmosphere to it's neighbours in that it is friendly. It quickly gets very very busy on a weekend but there are loads of places to sit. The fact that it is a cellar bar adds a certain ambience alone. The cocktail menu is fantastic, they have a huuuuge range and even at peak times the staff will do their showy cocktail making with bottles being spun and thrown in the air. A really good night out, despite it being a very busy and popular place to go.
If you're an indie rock and roller then Jakes Bar is a great place to stay for a few drinks or more on a night out in Leeds. The bar prices are relatively average when compared to bars in Leeds, and is neither cheap nor majorly expensive.
Music is usually always Kings of Leon/Strokes e.t.c. related and there is nothing but Indie played. On a saturday night especially this place gets absolutely heaving, though there is booths and settee areas to slob out on! And to bear in mind, not only packed, but SWEATY. To be honest I think it's definitley worth it, the atmosphere is great, as are the customers, and there's always a song on you can dance to!
Everybody loves Jakes Bar, and why the hell not?! It's great! (If you like Indie), as this is ALL that is played.
Situated underground in a dungeon like room on Call Lane the atmosphere here is amazing. The visual aspects of the place tie in perfectly with the rock n roll image they strive for.
The price of the bar is average for a night out in Leeds, but you have to fight tooth and nail to get to it on a weekend as the place is absolutely packed. The staff are friendly despite being extremely busy and it's great to have the chip and pin option at the bar. Also entry is free! Woohoo!
Jakes Bar is great to visit during the day aswell as they have great cocktails and food on offer!
Get yourself to Jakes Bar!
Situated in the Call Lane part of Leeds, Jakes Bar is a really popular night spot. Quite a small venue with quite a pleasant and vibrant atmosphere, which almost exclusively caters for those with an indie music taste.
Its subterrainian position, in conjunction with its size and popularity can make this bar feel quite claustrophobic at times, especially when people start bumping into you.
Its popularity sometimes means that getting to the bar is difficult and service can be a bit slow. However the clientele is relatively friendly and providing you like dancing to indie or rock, this is a good spot to hangout on a night in Leeds.
Most people I talk to about Jakes Bar absolutely love it, and so do I. If your into the indie music scene this is the place for you! They play almost exclusively indie.
On a weekend it is absolutely crammed but the atmosphere is electric, but don't make this the only place you go or don't make it yor meeting place put it somewhere in the middle.
The food during the day is nice and the cocktail menu is awesome, although you'll have to push through a few sweaty people to get to the bar.
This is definetley one of my favourite places in Leeds and if you haven't been go!
Firstly it is worth mentioning that the music policy at Jakes bar and grill is almost exclusively indie music. However on a weekend it fills up quickly and can get a good atmosphere. Watch out for people bumping into you though, but don't worry too much because people are reasonably friendly.
Also a word of warning, do not arrange for this place to be meeting place on an evening as late changes of venue or friends unfamiliar with Leeds will not be able to get in contact with you due to the subterranean nature of this establishment leading to it being a mobile phone reception blackspot.
