Reviews for Revolution Bar
Having recently reviewed York's Revolution Bar, I thought I would post up my thoughts about its Leeds counterpart (or should I correctly say one of its Leeds counterparts, as there are apparently two Revolutions in town - this relates to the Millenium Square version!)
Having been for dinner in York's Revolution to be wowed by cheap yet decent steak, but overwhelmed by loud music and clubby darkness descending on the diners about 8ish, I had reached the conclusion that Revolution for food was probably a better lunchtime bet. I tested this theory earlier this week at Leeds' Revolution and found it to be fairly accurate.
Revolution for lunch is an altogether more relaxed affair surrounded as you are by other diners, not crowds of drinkers. The service was really good, we were shown to our table by a very friendly manager man, who dashed off to get clean menus as he felt the ones he'd picked up were a bit too grubby looking. All the waiting staff were great and they had an offer of 15 minutes for food or they pay - which (sadly!) we didn't have to invoke! Prices were fairly reasonable - £7 each for a panini and a juice.
Only problem - and a fairly major one really - was the food was not great! Well presented and served with a smile, but sadly my croque monsieur was dry and quite tasteless.
So I think that other than bobbing in for a cheeky cocktail every now again, this is the end of my Revolution story.
Revolution is a must visit for vodka lovers, some of the flavours are just wrong but it doesn't hurt to try them anyway - not until the morning after.
It's not great for food but if you work for Leeds Council, take your ID badge in, food never costs more than a fiver and that includes the steak so if you're looking for ok rather than gourmet its a cheap eat for council employees.
It's a bit hen party at the weekend for my liking but the drinks promos are quite good through the week.
The music is standard yates's type stuff, which is not a compliment, nothing adventurous or interesting, cheese to rnb and back again.
Revolution is a chain, as with the vast majority of popular chains they draw in the crowds meaning it is difficult to get served, and that is despite this location been a million times more spacious than the call lane one.
The food is standard pub grub dressed up as something fancier and although it's not extortionate the deep fried fodder is not worth the money.
Packed full of trendies and hen-do's on weekends it's to be avoided. Go on an afternoon for a drink instead.
Good range of drinks and highly recommended is the woo-woo cranberry cocktail as well as the bees knees cocktail jug with fresh raspberries - delicious!
Revolution is a national vodka bar chain. Leeds residence will recall less than fondly the nights spent crammed in the original Call Lane bar. So it came as a huge relief and to great excitement when the new Revolution opened up at the Millenium Square venue.
Offering the same wide range of flavoured and specialist Russian vodkas, the new venue provides a vast amount of space , tables , courtyard setting and most importantly a designated dancefloor - much needed in the original venue.
Quality of the bar remains the same but the larger premises allows for a greater presence and atmosphere.
The only disadvantage is that its reputation proceeds itself and you need to stand in line to join the revolution.
If you like vodka this is definatly the place for you. Hundereds of flavoured vodka shots from chilli to butterscotch, vodka cocktails, vodka everything.
A good place to start your night during the week although it's always packed. The Millenium Square one is probably the best simply because it has a beer garden.
If your a student the drinks prices through the week are always good and the atmosphere is always good.
Generally it can be a bit cheesy as the other reviewer said but if your looking for a cheap starting point through the week i would reccomend it espeicially to students.
Cant knock this bar at all. Its a vodka bar!! Remember that!! Vodka drinks, vodka shots, vodka cocktails! One of the best atmospheres in town and a cool beer garden. Usualy hire their own DJ's. Bit cheesy, but this place rocks!
Great house, rock, pop, and dance music all nights of the week. The djs are usually quite well known and play an amazing set if you catch them on a friday or saturday night.
The cocktails are pretty basic, as I mentioned before, they mainly have Vodka in them. But the best thing about this bar is the brand of Vodka they use. Revolution are the only place that sell this brand. They stock pretty much all flavours that you can this of. Buy 1, 6, or 12 at a time. One strip of shots is enough for the entire night!!!
First off, be aware that there are TWO Revolution bars in Leeds. The older one is near the Corn Exchange, the newer one is near Millennium Square... opposite ends of Leeds, so be sure if you’re meeting friends in ‘Revolution’, you know which one!
I have asked many (MANY!) people for their opinions on which Revolution they prefer... and even between friends opinion is divided.
The newer one is bigger, two levels, comfy booths & a very pleasant atrium bit that feels like your outside (but you’re not so don’t spark up a cigarette here!). I have to say they play more commercial music and has the ‘feel’ of a club chain. Here the door staff are very professional & friendly... the barmen are not always able to keep track of who should be served next (& I have never seen one of them smile). But fair do’s... it gets shoulder to shoulder packed in here.
The older one has a more eclectic vibe, it’s smaller, tiny dance floor, doormen are professional & friendly, the bar staff are a bit more on the ball here (& seem to actually have a sense of humour!) one of them handed me one of those squirty dispenser things to pour my own drink so he could serve someone else at the same time! There’s a genuinely outside bit (so you can smoke here), it’s walled & gated so private from public view with large outdoor parasols with integrated heaters for those colder Leeds nights. The music is harder & the place has a more ‘underground’ feel.
Horses for courses, try ‘em both.
