As an Ayrshire girl who lives far from home, the first place that I love to visit during trips back home is The Ship Inn. Set in the impressive setting of the harbourside in Irvine, this Gastro Pub is a fantastic eaterie.

As an Ayrshire girl who lives far from home, the first place that I love to visit during trips back home is The Ship Inn. Set in the impressive setting of the harbourside in Irvine, this Gastro Pub is a fantastic eaterie.

Known for its delicious food at excellent prices, the Ship Inn is always busy and it never fails to delight diners. I did notice on my last visit to The Ship Inn that the food has risen in price and dishes average about £8 but this is still excellent value as the food beats the pants off any rivals in Ayrshire.

With main meals, The Ship Inn serves healthy portions of fresh vegetables, mushy peas, mashed potatoes and bolied potatoes with herbs and butter.

As a vegetarian, I am delighted with the meals on offer but I always order the pancake with green vegetables and garlic mushrooms as it always hits the spot. The Cullen Skink and Steak pie are firm favourites with members of my family.

The Ship Inn does not take bookings at the weelend so be prepared to wait for the table but beleive me, it will be worth the wait.
