Reviews for Caraway Indian Restaurant
frequented by mostly Asians - this is a good sign. Decor amazing as you enter, but loses direction when you get inside. Food - OK. Nothing amazing. Just a lot of chilli's on spicyy stuff.
For Indian's it is important to know if the place is non-Halal. They claim the chef is from Delhi, but the owner seems Bangladeshi.
Kunchans is probably the best truly Indian place in Gants Hill.
Go here if you like food in your hair. I went with my family to celebrate a birthday, there was over 15 of us including children and we left after our starters. The manager on duty (I think is name is Raj) was supposed to get the owners to call me, but it appears they do not care. It was a waste of £135.65. I was in the restaurant on the 11/04/09.I AM ONLY GIVING A RATING OF 1 STARS BECAUSE THE REVEIW DOSE NOT ALLOW A MINUS RATING
I saw this restaurant being fitted out and decided to try it.
I was delighted - friendly, helpful staff, cosy charming ambiance & last, but certainly not least, delicious food.
I have since dined there a number of times, alone and with others, and have yet to be disappointed. All is of a consistently high standard. Even when the restaurant is crowded, the standards are not compromised.
Furthermore, the music is unobtrusive and the tables are well-spaced, enabling a privacy not always found in popular places. And it IS popular, both with young people and family groups...always the sign of a good establishment.
Long may it continue to thrive.
Caraway is, in my opinion, definitely one of the best Indians in London. I must have been at least ten times, and each and every time I have thouroughly enjoyed the food quality, the environment and the service.
It's in a good location, with plenty spaces to park nearby, so you won't go hungry walking miles to get to the place. From the outside, it does look quite grand and inviting - and rightly so, because the inside is very comfortable and modern. There's a large seating area which can cater for a fair few diners on a busy Saturday night. We've seen tables of about 15 or 20 people in, sometimes!
The starters are the usual Indian fare - pakoras, dosas, puris, etc. All are freshly made and lovely and crisp. The main courses are equally good quality - hot curries which actually taste authentic (using fresh spices, not just ground powder like other places), and the desserts offer treats like the syrupy gulab jamun.
If you have friends who haven't yet tried Indian food (how could they not?) then absolutely bring them to Caraways. If they're not impressed by the spicy food, then at least the great surroundings will appease them. Highly recommended.
Caraway Indian restaurant is based in Gants Hill and in my opinion one of the best indian restaurants in Ilford. They have a very decent interior and fantastic seating that has been divided into two parts on the ground level - one near the bar area and one on the opposite side. It is very pleasant and excellent setting for either party dinners or family dinners - one of our preffered choices for special occassions.
The food here is exceptionally good and they serve typical authentic punjabi food (which we love). The starters are good followed by the rich creamy dished of curry and fluffy naans. The service is also really good and the staff are really polite and friendly. The prices are a tad higher but you do not mind paying because the food is truly deserving .
