Reviews for Boars Head
Firstly, despite the five-star rating there are things amiss - the landlord seems to think it necessary to have a roaring fire in the middle of summer and the beer's a bit pricey, but...
An amazing little pub a mile out of Horsham, with a seperate restaurant room and an extensive terrace with heaters, big squashy sofas, and a friendly atmousphere. The food is always good quality and served with a smile, as is the wine and beer, but the real story is the music. Tuesday is mellow acoustic guitar stuff, Wednesday a mixed bag of open mic, Friday tends to be rockish and Saturday is piano in the restaurant.
If you have to choose one night however, make it Thursday. Stunning Jazz by Andy Walker and his quartet, plus whoever turns up, occasionally including Mornington Locket, but more frequently Andy's 84 year-old uncle Fred who is astonishingly good, despite appearances as he shuffles in. The verse of Sweet Georgia Brown which is horns-only is the highlight of the week and more people should know about it.
