Having been a customer of this establishment for more than twenty years and travel a distance to enjoy their fish teas etc I am afraid to say our last visit will be just that.

Upon ordering our fish teas, my wife who for the past years has ordered two pickled onions with her meal without any problem, was told abruptly ( not by one of the excellent regular waitresses I may add), we don,t sell pickled onions with our fish teas ! since when ?

Sitting there gobsmacked she told us it was more than her job was worth to give my wife pickled onions with fish and chips! but she would ask her supervisor !

Thinking she was having a laugh we debated the silliness of the situation while awaiting our meals.

When the meals arrived, to our astonishment minus the onions, our protests were met with ( I will get ma supervisor then ) who duly appeared at our table and was as adamant and as abrupt as her waitress that she would not serve two pickled onions with my wife,s fish tea !!

Not wishing to take this silly escapade any further we proceeded to start our meal and noticed that two usual items served here, namely, tartare sauce and coleslaw were missing.

When we asked our pleasant waitress about these missing items, we were told we need to ask for them ( don,t think to offer them to the customer upon ordering eh) as they do not serve them on the plate any more because of waste ! two small spoonfuls ?

Upon asking for these items we were brought two large bowls of them which I presume are passed around all the tables ( when you ask for them , that is !) oh dear, very hygienic

So there we have it, Mr Equis, laughable I know, a nice meal ruined by two silly people employed in your establishment, if it were mine I would be concerned.

So I am afraid to say Equis of Hamilton joins the growing list of establishments in Scotland where the customer is the inconvenience between the booking and the paying

My family and I were staying at the Hilton in Strathclyde in July 2008 and a man there in the leisure suite recommended this cafe/ice cream parlour to us. We went and thoroughly enjoyed it-from the fish and chips to the fantastic ice creams to the service it was all just perfect. We went back last week on a daytrip and the staff were making new ice creams for photos for their new menu and we got to eat them free! How fantastic is that! My husband and I shared a knickerbocker glory and the kids shared a banana split - then the kids got to take the ice creams away that they would have had on the kids menu! Absoultely brilliant place and well recommended by us. I am craving another one of their fantastic ice creams as I write this!

I was introduced to this place by a friend when I signed up to attend Bell College. After visiting the place once and tasting their ice cream - I was in love. They have so many different flavours - I think Turkish Delight has got to be my personal favourite! I don't really rate the cafe / restaurant and found that the few times that I've sat in and eaten that the length of time to bring your food is long considering the type of food they serve i.e. fish and chips. The waitresses can also be quite rude. Get a take away ice cream on a nice hot day and you're in heaven!

Equi's make,s without a doubt, THE best ice cream. Simple as that. However, a while back I took my kids out to Equi's for a sit-in ice cream treat. There were plenty of empty tables.... I'd estimate the place wasn't even half full. We had a look at the ice cream menu and my kids excitedly pointed out what they wanted. The waitress came over to ask what we wanted, then snapped "We don't sell ice cream on a Saturday evening. The seated area is for meals only." okaaaaay, but the pace was only half full, and there were no signs alerting customers to the "meals only" rule..... what would have been the problem with serving 3 ice cream sundaes? I emailed the place and got the reply that the cafe (it isn't a restaurant) only serves meals on a Saturday. No apology about the kids being disappointed.

So they have lost my family's custom.

Great ice cream. Passable fish n chips.

Wouldn't go near the place again though. Glorified chippy with seats. Obnoxious, curt staffand ZERO customer care in my opinion.

Peter Equi's is or was just an ice cream parlour but is now a fish & chip shop that sells ice cream. I'm not a fan of fish and chips but the ice cream is excellent. There are loads of different flavours and I've tried them all! Could have something to do with my weight problem…
Apparently during the 2nd World War, Mr Equi would buy ingredients from the locals through their ration books to produce his ice cream. Mr Equi would constantly be fined by the authorities but such was the demand, the fine costs were negated.
If your passing, pop in and have some, even if it's raining and it will be because it's always raining at the Peacock Cross, the wettest place outside Dumbartonshire.
Enjoy, I do.

ohh its been a fish n chips shop for a good long time... the fish and chips is regarded as one of the best in the area with people coming from very far distances just to have it.
the range of different flavours is fantastic and the staff are a friendly bunch too

the milkshakes are some of the best you will ever taste in your entire life. and as for peacock cross being the wettest place outside dumbartonshire, that is false, in the ice cream season its forever very sunny at peacock cross as proven by the queue outside equis which can sometimes be right along the street
