I thought Wagamama was great the first time I went as I had never been to a Japanese restaurant before but then a friend took me to Ichiban which blew Wagamama out the water! Apart from the food being better it has a far friendlier atmosphere.

This is a really nice noodle bar and quite authentic. The place always looks clean and the food is very fresh and made on the premises. Extensive menu includes multitude of rice dishes and noodle broths as well as really nice sushi. Great vegetarian, meat and seafood choices. During Mon to Fri lunchtime you can also enjoy a main dish and side dish combo for £6.90 from a set menu. The main menu has more choice including fantastic vegetable and prawn tempura with a really nice dipping sauce. There is no separate kids menu but you can order kids portions of most dishes. There is another branch in the West end which is more spacious and easier for buggies (no stairs).

A few of my friends swear by Wagamama, but I have to say Ichiban wins for me every time.

I'm not a huge fan of sushi, so Ichiban is great as it offers much more than that. There's a great selection of soup-based, noodle and rice dishes and plenty for veggies too. Highlights for me are the vegetable skewers and rolled steak with mushroom side dishes, and for a main dish the beef yakisoba is SO tasty, packed with chilli and ginger flavours.

The lunch deal is really good value and the service is always top-class - very friendly and helpful staff at both West End and town restaurants.

Do try it if you haven't already!

Ichiban is a great noodle bar for those who don't like the usual "serve from frozen" noodles you usually get in carry out shops. It's got a real traditional flair to it, meaning the food and the environment are both really enjoyable. It's all freshly prepared, and has pretty decent portion sizes, too, so you won't be left too hungry. The prices are a tad steep but it's not an every-day sort of place, either, so all in all it's an excellent spot for a meal out.

Good quality Japanese food - soup based, wok fried, sauce and curry based noddle dishes, with good value bento boxes and sushi. Always a good mix of western and asian peolpe eat here. Polite service, food cooked as you order. We have been many times and never had a poor meal here. You can get a good feed for two for about £25 including drink. My favourites are the beef, seafood and ichiban yakisoba and yakiudon. They also do a phone and collect takeaway, or pop in for a takeaway. This is just as good - cooked for you there and then.

My husband took me here on our first date (awww) and we loved it! We've been back loads of times since. The food is excellent - really authentic. It's served very quickly, and in true Japanese style - you don't necessarily get your starter first, you get what's ready, when it's ready! The bento boxes in particular are great - they have a little bit of everything (at a very reasonable price), so if you're new to Japanese food it's a great introduction.

The staff are great - they'll explain anything on the menu you're not quite sure of (although they laugh when you ask for a fork!)

It's a shame this little place is so 'hidden' - you could easily walk right past the Queen Street branch, as it's upstairs and has a very narrow doorway.

I can't count the number of times I have been to Ichiban, and I keep coming back for more. It probably has something to do with the price, and the cute little dishes, which at the small price you can order a lot of and try a bit of everything. The warm sake is also lovely and cheap too. The only downside is the bench style seating, this can be a bit sore on the back, and you can end up sitting quite close to strangers, but for quick, delicious bite on the hoof you can't beat it. Far better sushi than you can buy in the supermarket!

Reasonably priced, authentic Japanese food served by friendly staff, great stop off on a night out for food.
Would highly recommend.

Ichiban is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Glasgow. It serves a variety of noodle and rice dishes along side tasty sushi. Everything here is freshly prepared by superb chefs. The sushi is tasty and filling. They also do a good range of bento boxes. To wash it all down try some of the flower teas my favourite is the Jasmin flower that looks so pretty and its the perfect accompaniment to the food. There is a good lunch offer during the week and the restaurant is centrally located and opens until late. They also do take-away so check out their website.

Very central, but easy to miss - upstairs!

Often a queue for tables at busy times, always a good sign. Casual atmosphere (long shared tables), great staff.

The range of sushi is limited, but they do a good bento box, and good miso. The noodle soups are excellent, I think they're better than the curries.

They do take away too!
