Balbirs is an amazing Indian Restaurant. It is a little strange in that there aren't any menus, you are asked what sort of things you like and then they make dishes for you individually. These were fantastic, a superior quality to any that I have tried elsewhere. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, the only reason it is not a 5 star review is that it is a bit pricier - but a great place for a special night out. They also have another restaurant off the M77 motorway, which does takeaway....

Am pretty sure there is a connection with this establishment and the original Cafe India on North Street.......would like this to be confirmed as I worked with a relative of the owner and would like to say hello.( To "Bob " ).

We have been going to Balbir's for a while now and have never been disappointed. The food is always great, service speedy and the staff are really helpful and pleasant.

It's touted as a healthy eating option and we initially went because they don't use ghee (my partner has a lactose intolerance). They use minimal oil for cooking, so gone are the days of curries with oil slicks on top!

For a starter, the tandoori salmon is delicious and the bhel puri is really nice if you want something a bit different. Their saag is great and for something a bit spicier, the Xacuti (a Goan speciality) is awesome.

The restaurant is massive - great for big groups - and has always been busy when we've been in. They recommend you book in advance if you want to go on Friday/Saturday night. The only minor flaw is that it's so big that I feel it lacks cosiness.

They also do take away and the portions are massive - I think they are bigger than you get in the restaurant.

Just back from eating at Balbir's for the first time, and quite frankly I'm already looking forward to the next time!

It's deceptively large. From the outside it looks normal, but once you're in it goes back a long way from the street. As you might expect from a building which has only been in existence a short time, occupying the site of a former church, the decor is not only clean but very modern too.

Our table of 9 people (an old friend and his girlfriend re-visiting Glasgow from their home in Australia) were offered The Banquet whereby we paid £15 each and between the 9 of us were served 10 main courses. They'll provide The Banquet for tables of 2 or more. The very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly waiter asked us a few questions about whether anyone had any preferences: hot curry; mild curry; fish; vegetarian etc etc, and they then served us two excellent courses to share. In particular the Tandoori salmon starter was great.

Busy yet relaxed and not in any way crowded, Balbir's surely must be the new top-dog in Glasgow's curry fraternity. And don't forget, Glasgow IS the curry capital of the UK!

UPDATE 22nd April 2007: Went again last night and if anything it was even better than last time. I think that's because I knew what to expect. And I've discovered that they do takeaway!
