10th March 2007
Just back from eating at Balbir's for the first time, and quite frankly I'm already looking forward to the next time!
It's deceptively large. From the outside it looks normal, but once you're in it goes back a long way from the street. As you might expect from a building which has only been in existence a short time, occupying the site of a former church, the decor is not only clean but very modern too.
Our table of 9 people (an old friend and his girlfriend re-visiting Glasgow from their home in Australia) were offered The Banquet whereby we paid 15 each and between the 9 of us were served 10 main courses. They'll provide The Banquet for tables of 2 or more. The very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly waiter asked us a few questions about whether anyone had any preferences: hot curry; mild curry; fish; vegetarian etc etc, and they then served us two excellent courses to share. In particular the Tandoori salmon starter was great.
Busy yet relaxed and not in any way crowded, Balbir's surely must be the new top-dog in Glasgow's curry fraternity. And don't forget, Glasgow IS the curry capital of the UK!
UPDATE 22nd April 2007: Went again last night and if anything it was even better than last time. I think that's because I knew what to expect. And I've discovered that they do takeaway!
