Reviews for Counting House

As this pub is right next to the train station it's ideally placed for a drink before travelling. It overlooks St George's Square and is a large venue. It used to be a bank which I'm assuming accounts for the name. For all its size though it can still be difficult to get a table.

It's part of the Wetherspoon's chain and as such prices are cheap and they serve the usual Wetherspoon's food. A burger and a pint, or glass of wine for under a fiver is certainly cheap. They have large screen tvs showing the news with sub-titles and often run drink promotions. If wine is your drink, there's plenty of choice here.

The ladies loos are downstairs and on my visits have been clean and tidy.

Any time I visit Glasgow with colleagues, we invariably end up here and although it's always busy, it's a relaxed atmosphere and a beautiful building. The staff always seem friendly too.

A lovely setting for a nice cheap meal. This is part of the Weatherspoons chain and is situated in the centre of Glasgow. It has always been quite busy when I’ve been in but served quickly. It is a converted bank hence ‘counting house’ name and it is worth going to see for the architecture and generally ambient surroundings. It is right by St Georges Square and is worth a visit as the food is cheap and cheerful (under £7 for a main meal) as is the beer with many offers on different days! Kids can eat in there in the day up to about 6pm I think.

The Counting House is in a great location – on the corner of George Square really close to Queen Street train station and Buchanan Street subway station. It’s in a very grand old building that used to be a bank. It’s part of the Wetherspoons chain (it’s Scotland’s flagship Wetherspoons) and therefore they do very cheap food and very cheap drinks. To be honest that’s where its good points end. In the evenings it’s always extremely crowded with the ‘after work drinks’ crowd and this can make getting to the bar never mind finding a table next to impossible. And it’s a typical Wetherspoons, you get what you pay for as far as food is concerned.

This pub is located in the centre of Glasgow and is in a really good location just off George Square with Queen Street station and Buchanan St Subway just under 100m away.

The architecture is impressive- high roof and painted ceilings, but as the previous review mentioned it can make it a bit cavernous and makes it a less lively and a bit of a muted atmosphere as the noise gets lost.

Despite this it is a busy pub and has a huge bar. At busy times it can be a drama to get served. As with all wetherspoons outlets, you get a cheap pub meal in there no problem- standard pub food but it is good. Drinks are also well priced and good selection of beers and ales.

Converted bank overlooking George Square right in the centre of Glasgow. Reasonably priced good selection of real ale, as you would expect from JD Wetherspoon, but it's a barn of a place with very little atmosphere. Worth going into to look at the architecture though.
