I really don't like Oran Mor. The building's lovely but that's about it. I find the drinks expensive, the atmosphere lacking, there's no music in the bar so all you can hear's everyone else's chatter. It is also full of middle-class 'trendies'. The only plus point is the later opening hours so if you happen to have been in another pub and fancy a drink after closing time you can sometimes nip up to Oran Mor provided funds allow!

This venue is located on Byers Road in the West End of Glasgow. It's a bit funny arriving at the Oran Mor and taking a look at the historical outside knowing that inside you are going to see a gig. The building itself, an old church, is beautiful and unique as far as music venues go. Gigs are held in the basement and the space is pretty small and intimate similar to King Tut's. Since the venue is located in the west end there's no chance of pint throwing into the crowd here. The sound quality is really good and most anywhere is a good place to see the band from. There are also seats at either wall if you prefer to relax at a gig.

The transformation of this old Kelvinside Parish Church at the top end of Glasgow’s Byres Road into Oran Mor, arts venue, bar and restaurant(s), has been reasonably successful. The innermost area is taken up with a capacious bar - a hive of activity and great drinking spots.

The curtained-off Conservatory offers the possibility of a slightly more tranquil spot for dining, or you can eat in the more upmarket Brasserie. This is quite separate from the bar and has the feel of a Gothic, Victorian dining club with its tongue and grooved walls and intimate booths.

Head to The Venue in Oran Mor and dance the night away with a more 'mature' crowd. Bit on the pricey side, but worth it if you fancy a boogy.

It's hard to imagine Byres Road without Oran Mor now but it has actually only been open for a few years. The Brasserie is an excellent and upmarket restaurant; the bar is large and better during the day than at night, when it can be a bit neddy, the club is retro and full of 30-somethings. Many people have their wedding receptions here, including Simon Pegg of Spaced and Shaun of the Dead fame, who was married here with Gwynneth Paltrow and Chris Martin as guests (and some other people, presumably). The theatre programme of A Pie, A Play and A Pint is well established now, though the pies aren't that nice.

The interior is very nice, all dark wood and brass. Staff are very entertaining and pleasant, they also have afternoon Theatre which sometimes has some big names.

This converted church can be found right on the corner of Byres Road and Great Western Road, the west end of Glasgow. It can be tricky to get to for your first time as both roads are very long! A brilliant venue and one of my favourites in Glasgow. It is a pub, an arts venue, a music venue, and even a nightclub. It does every one equally as good. The atmosphere is second to none and you find a lot of interesting people to talk with. The prices are fair considering the location too, with a lot on offer. Highly recommended from me, a top place for a night out.

Yes, really, that's how they list their address on their website! And as with a fair few places on this site the Google Maps image is in slightly the wrong place (which isn't the fault of TrustedPlaces). It's right on the corner of Byres Road and Great Western Road.

The name is Gaelic and means the "great melody of life" or "big song" and it's in a converted church just across from Glasgow's Botanic Gardens. It has a beer garden outside, overlooking Byres Rd, and inside it's been very nicely and sympathetically converted, although to be honest I've only been in once and that was to the ground floor bar. It's a bit pricey, but it is the heart of the west end. I probably wouldn't choose to go in too often, but would be happy enough if someone else asked to meet there. It sells real ale, but doesn't sell any crisps nuts or other snacks.

As well as a pub, it's an arts venue too, and has what is apparently a very good auditorium.

Come to think of it, I have also been in the basement which is a nightclub. Don't ask!
