PizzaExpress has expanded enormously over the years and now has a staggering number of outlets. The simple menu and kitchen concept has retained its freshly made ideal and you can still watch your pizza being prepared for you.

Reviews for PizzaExpress

better than average

Top view of the cathedral square and top pizzas - thin and crispy bases with rich tomato sauce and great toppings for flavour. Mines a venziana - capers, sultanas, olives, red onion - delicious. Most importantly they dont overload the thing with cheese. This is an excellent place for people watching and a great venue for a meal with friends and a bottle of wine. A warm friendly atmosphere with excellent service - upmarket style without upmarket costs. Can tend to get crammed so book in advance.

Salads and breads are also excellent, but you tend to feel you're there for the pizza so can often miss out. Advice - get some to share.

I love Pizza Express pizzas. They are exactly as Italian pizzas should be. The base is thin, not overcooked. There is plenty of tomato sauce, not too much cheese and a generous helping of chosen toppings. So there is no need for me to go into any further detail about their pizzas in general - stunning is all I can say!

The setting of the Exeter Pizza Express is superb. It overlooks cathedral green and has exposed brickwork and romantic lighting inside. There are also a few tables outside. It is beautiful.

However, this particular restaurant is let down by the staff. The manager is helpful but some of the waiters are rude and incompetent. At the end of a meal they asked if I liked it and I said that it had actually been really salty and not up to the usual standard. The waiter actually said to me, 'well you managed to eat it all' and then walked off! On another occasion, another waiter said my food would arrive more quickly if I didn't interrupt him to ask where it was. I would not eat here again out of principle.

This restaurant has one of the best locations in Exeter, the view of the cathedral is fantastic and the building has great character.

Pizza Express food standards are always high and this restaurant is no exception. The recently released thinner base pizzas are the best in my opinion - particularly the Pollo Ad Astra. The garlic bread also tends to be superb.

The service can be slightly variable at lunchtimes when they are at their absolute busiest - I think it's probably because they have such a high staff turnover so the experience isn't always there.

Overall - As long as you have time to relax and enjoy your lunch this is a fantastic place to visit!
