The client's brief was to create a full-on club venue for 18 to 25 year olds in an area that has no other nightclub within a 6 mile radius.
Our concept was to closely examine social interaction within club environments and to create a series of flexible spaces that cater for various forms of interaction.
One side of Club Cube forms an informal lounge/bar while the other performs as a secondary dance zone. We also formed two upper level gallery zones with interconnecting bridges to encourage fluid circulation throughout the club. Square glazed apertures within the galleries overlook the main double height space. On both galleries an AVR colour-changing system was used to control pace and mood.
Conceptually, the different layers of interior space gradually reveal themselves with the dance cube working as a buffer zone in the main space. The Club Cube's resident dancers perform to viewers beyond glazed graphic panels.
Electronic shutter screens in the dance cube are visible from the upper level glazed screens. These remain closed as the club is filling up but are gradually opened by the DJ to coincide with heightened mood within the club.

The Club Cube ground floor gantry is sixteen metres long and acts as a very simple orientation tool within the space. Both back gantry details have back-illuminated opaque glazed screens with cold cathode luminaires.

Nightclub - 2004 Update
In June 2004 the Club Cube nightclub, Musselburgh - forced to close after being refused a late-night drink licence - owner failed in his bid to have the decision overturned in court.
Alfredo Alongi, owner of Edinburgh's Club Cube accused East Lothian Licensing Board of acting unlawfully by deciding the Club Cube fate in secret. Mr Alongi was denied the late-night licence in March 2004 after Edinburgh Police complained about noise and violence at the venue.
Alongi took East Lothian Licensing Board to the Court of Session: Lord Emslie dismissed the claims meaning the Club Cube may close permanently. Club Cube has been dogged by controversy since opening in 2002. In 2003 around 120 police raided the premises.
This is one of Edinburgh's best restaurants - the city would be a much poorer place without it. Superb French cusine. High recommended.
Until now, I had never been to a proper french restaurant. I'm glad La Garringue was my first one! It set the high standard that all other french restuarants need to meet in my opinion! Its really nicely decorated and has a bit of a homely feel, yet its cool and sophisticated as well. The service is prompt, polite and very friendly. The menu choice is wide, many different dishes to choose from and several specials as well. Food arrived promptly and tasted divine. Couldn't fault anything with them, even the price wasn't excessive for what we had! I'll definately be going back, i suggest you do too!
Fantastic, taditional French cuisine, freshly prepared. The cassuolet is one of the best things I've EVER eaten!
The restaurant is lovely: nice decor, good views and friendly staff.
The set menu is very good value.
I've had a few celebration meals here - always have a great time
