I went to the New York Steam packet about a year ago with a friend. This is a lovely wee restaurant which you go upstairs to. It is a couple which run the business, the food is limited, but very enjoyable, the steak was gorgeous and the dime bar cake was to die for, never wanted it to end. This is BYOB, so its great, its a 3 course meal for a set price, so very cheap, would recommend.

The New York Steam Packet is a tiny restaurant off Rose Street in Edinburgh which is accessed via a steep spiral staircase.
Booking is essential and there are generally a couple of "sittings" per evening.
The menu is small but not limited - we opted for the burgers and were not disappointed with our meal from the set menu.
The restaurant isn't licensed but you are encouraged to bring your own bottle.
This is a lovely little place which I consider to be a "hidden gem" in Edinburgh.
