Blue Moon Cafe
The Blue Moon has been part of Edinburgh's 'pink triangle' for many years. It's straight friendly and used by straight local office worker who obviously feel comfortable there, but it's customers are gay in the main. Watching the people going in and out from my preferred choice of the Olive Branch across the road, shows that, especially at the weekends, the LGBT crowd is what fills the cafe up.
I'm always impressed by the friendliness and welcoming nature of the staff. From a warm greeting when arriving to extremely pleasant table service the staff are the cafe's secret weapon. If you're a regular then the service is even friendlier.
The popularity of the the cafe shows either how highly it is regarded in the local community or how few gay alternatives there are, hopefully the former.
The menu isn't exciting and consists of 'pub grub' type dishes. Quality is OK but not wonderful - pretty run of the mill, but not too expensive.
The Blue Moon Cafe is at 1 Barony Street, Edinburgh, EH1 3SB. Telephone: 0131 556 2788 for opening hours etc.
