Monkey See, Monkey Do
My favourite pub in Edinburgh, Brass Monkey is one of the best places to just chill, whether it is with friends, other halves or even by yourself. The place is divided into two parts- the front is your usual pub with a sofa area to the rear, but opposite the middle of the bar is a door (of sorts) that leads to the screening room. The feature of this room, and indeed the main attraction for the pub, is that 90% of the room is on a raised platform with only the entrance and the space under the huge tv screen being level with the front. Billed as a bed, this idea has been realized in a way not nearly as seedy as some other clubs have chosen to do. With a cushioned top, and multiple mini tables protruding from the bed, this is the perfect place to relax with your obligatory drink and wile away the hours. The films are by random and obscure, and there is the chance that the film may skip in parts if it has been overplayed, but as entry is free (everyone must have a drink of some sorts, but that can be one coke to last 2 hours) you can’t really complain.
If going specifically for the screenings on a weekend night, it may be worth phoning up beforehand to check that this room hasn’t been booked out by one of the university affiliated clubs, as it is a popular student haunt and is occasionally used for end of term nights out.
