I felt immediately at home at Hectors the first time I walked into the place. It has somewhat of a reputation as a haven for yummy mummys and socialites from Edinburgh's "Notting Hill" - Stockbridge. If it is, they didn't detract from the experience and in fact all types of people seem to rub along nicely in this charming bar.
There was a cornucopia of different beers, continental lagers and even draught cider as well as an intelligently constructed wine list. The food I'm assured is first class but I had just sampled the titan of Chip Shops that is L'Alba D'Oro with its curiously oxymoronic policy of cooking Mars Bars in Batter whilst offering top vintages of champagne for sale at the other end of the shop !!!
Suffice to say that Hector's is worth a couple of hours of anybody's time and once you're settled it's tempting to stay for the rest of the night. I wandered past on a Sunday afternoon and was not surprised to see it suitably heaving then either with people eating and reading the Broadsheets...
