I used to be a big fan of the GA but it has gone downhill recently. The loos are often unclean and the Gents stink terribly. The place smells of stale ale throughout and on Sat 2 Aug I was insulted by a barman there. I wouldn't mind but I was stone cold sober and justing trying to wet my whistle after shopping. I'm not going back - suggest you don't also. There's plenty of other good pubs in Eddy.

    Charming, if busy pub.
Good beers on tap and nice pub food.

I spent a day in New Register House in January 2006 researching my family tree, and nearly went into this bar afterwards because it's right next door, at the east end of Princes St. Instead I went into the Burger King nearby because it was 4.30pm and I literally hadn't eaten anything at all that day (a cancelled train from Glasgow, followed by road works holding up the bus meant I was 2 hours late in arriving and wanted to get as much value for my £17 day pass as possible so I didn't have time to eat!). Anyway, that was then, but later in 2006 I managed to go into the pub, and very nice it is too, with some good beer. We also met a huge bear of a man who was loud, brash and claimed to have been a stuntman on the film Gladiator. He didn't tell us his name, but I overheard one of his friends call him Gordon, and lo and behold there is a Gordon Smith listed as one of the stuntmen on that film! Can't find a photo of him though so I can't confirm it's definitely the same guy.
