Reviews for Edinburgh Zoo

Edinburgh Zoo is a great day out for all ages and I visited with family and friends on my stag do to Edinburgh last year (well, you’ve got to walk off the hangover somehow!). The weather was fine and it was quite a hot day, but this meant that some animals were sleeping so were hiding away out of view, which was a minor disappointment.

The penguins were probably the highlight of the day and we watched feeding time with eyes all aglow! There is a large window panel at the lower side of the penguin’s pool, so you can get right up close to the birds as they swim from one side of the water to the other – meaning some excellent photo and video opportunities.

From the highest point of the park, you can get an excellent view of Edinburgh and the surrounding hills. This is a good place to rest and have a quick bite to eat on one of the large stones that have been placed around the perimeter of this area.

Edinburgh zoo serves quite a large area of Scotland since Glasgow zoo closed several years ago. If you are from Glasgow and go to Edinburgh by bus then you know that almost all buses stop there on the way making it quite convenient to get there.

Of particular note are the polar bear. I've seen it there several times but never realised that apparently it's the only Polar bear in a zoo in Britain. But as mentioned by another reviewer, it's pretty sad to see it alone there. it could really do with some company.

There's nothing quite like seeing the size of some of the big cats like the Jaguar and the tiger so close.

Edinburgh Zoo is set at the Corstorphine aEdinburgh which is easy accessable from the M8 is travelling outwith the Edinburgh Area.
Set in 82 acres of sloping parkland with the entrance at the bottom of the hill, the size of the zoo is deceiving from the outside looking in.

You enter the park through a foyer area where tickets can be bought, the through a set of double doors into the zoo. There are toilets right at the entrance to the main zoo with large and mini size toilets etc.

The zoo has recently had a new Chimp building called the Buzongo trail. We spent about an hour in here. It has indoor and outdoor areas showing the chimps at play etc. There is another new area called Rainbow Landing which has birds flying about while you are in the enclosure. You can buy little cups of nectar but will be surrounded.
Add to this the old faithfull Pengiun enclosure with it's daily parade, the lions, tigers, sea lions and various other animals it really makes for a great day out. There was a few animal keepers there they day we were there and they were happy to take questions about the animals.
I must admit I did feel sorry for the lonesome polar bear. They really could do with providing a larger area for him/her. He looked very sad and lonely.

Edinburgh zoo is a great day out for all the family, i was last there a few months back and had a great day, we took some brillaint photos and enjoyed seeing all the animals. The only disapointment i faced was there were no monekeys as a new enclosure was being built. I believe it has now opened and have heard from a friend who went that it is really good. My last visit was the first time i had seen the penguin parade which was quite interesting to watch. The door to the enclosure is opened and the penguins themselfs decide if they want to go for a walk, they are not forced to come out, it is all up to them They then parade around the zoo. The big cats are another favourite of mine to see, there is a great selection of animals and they all look well cared for.

As someone else mentioned it can be a bit of a trek as alot of it is uphill, but they do provide an open top bus if you dont want to walk which will take you up the top of the zoo. There is also a great giftshop with some wonderful animal gifts. They have two restaurants, and ice cream vans which sell ice creams and soft drinks which is especialy great on hot days.

I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great family day out that all the family will enjoy.

I love Edinburgh Zoo, it is a great day out for all the family. Was there just over a month ago for the first time in quite a few years. I always love the penguin parade, and like going to the penguin enclosure to see them all getting fed. The big cats section is another favourite of mine. They have recently opened a new monkey enclosure too, which is really nice and looks lovely compared to what used to be there, though we could only see two monkeys at the time we were there. It's quite steep and hilly so be prepared for tired legs after a visit to the zoo.
