Their welcome sign is in lots of languages.

Food
You queue up. I chose from the hot section and then realized an equally interesting cold selection was beyond. Cakes and biscuits were on another table.

The salmon was disappointingly a bit dry. But I liked the lumpy potatoes with mustard. And the lurid greens. It was all filling stuff.

The stuffed baked potato always appeals to me.

Outdoor eating in the adjoining garden attracts lots of people even in February. Most indoor tables have dining chairs but you can also enjoy bucket armchairs in a side room called The Snug which can be hired for events.

Tea time must be as good as lunch. I eyed scrumptious looking giant scones. Crumble. Large biscuits. Lots of things were labelled home made. Couscous.

One historic sign about medieval etiquette was on the wall. I would have liked more. the eating area id not evoke the glamour which a stately home, moreover a palace, could provide.

However, on balance I'd say it had tasty and unusual food.

Drinks
I could not resist the novelty of Rhubarb wine with the Palace label. It tasted sweet.

My tall coffee was only so-so, not much flavour, so I didn’t finish it.
On a return visit I might try the orange juice.

Napkins are printed with a poem in an Indian language and in translation. It had neither rhyme for rhythm in the English translation. It evoked an image of a nightingale in the garden, which was good. A puzzling connection was made with India, which seemed irrelevant and confusing. I'm all in favour of women's right. But annoyingly, it had a couple of spelling errors and a misplaced apostrophe and nobody
had noticed or bothered to correct these misleading mistake.

More on the plus side:
If you go to eat here regularly you can have a loyalty card.

You could sit around for ages chatting and nobody bothers you.

If you want a grander meal in the evening, outside the entrance there are shopping street by the river and you'll see a Blubeckers, an Italian restaurant, a pizza restaurant.

It's a short walk from the Hampton Court railway station, from which you can see the Palace. Pedestrian paths and the main road cross over the river which is very pleasant.
