The Almshouses Cafe Restaurant

Reviews for The Almshouses Cafe Restaurant
A lovely little place in the perfect spot on the palace green, Durham, with the cathedral and castle as it's neighbours. The food is cooked on the premises and they have an excellent quality selection that changes day to day. It can get quite busy at lunchtimes so you may be pushed to get a table. I usually pop in for coffee and a cake but only for a treat as it is on the pricey side. It has a peaceful ambience with paintings for sale around the walls giving it the feel of a little art gallery. A welcome relief from commercialised chain type restaurants.
Lovely little cafe in Durham Cathedral, great for a nice cuppa after trekking to the top of the Cathedral!
It was really busy when I went in, but the staff were working quickly and efficiently to try and clear the back log of customers. Even though they were run off their feet, they were still polite and friendly.
They have quite a wide selection of different foods to suit all tastes from proper food to something for a quick bite. They also serve wines and beers which makes a change for a cafe.
Not the cheapest place in the World, but well worth it to soak up the ambience
