Reviews for The Water House
The Water House is a Wetherspoons pub and a good one to start the night off with as it is just across the road from the bus station at the top of North Road. For this reason there are a mixture of types who frequent it. I don't particularly like the North Road area for drinking in, as it has a lot of chain pubs and always seems ripe for a bit of trouble, but I do make an exception for this pub. Wetherspoons is one chain that I do quite like. You know what to expect with Wetherspoons, a big, well maintained and usually interesting building, fantastic toilets and cheap drinks and food. the Water House is quite wide and spacious, but it does get extremely busy on the weekend. A good one to pop into earlier on I think.
I love Weatherspoons, anywhere and everywhere!
The only thing i don't like about them across the board is the wait....at busy times you tend to wait a long time! The Water house is no different, but i always feel like it is more spacious than others!
It's a great place to take a book into, have a drink and munch on some nacho's!
Or take a group of you for cheap grub, cheap drink, and a good laugh!
The night time is good to, as it is a big building, it's not too suished, and it's in a great location in durham, oposite night clubs and other pubs, good place to start the night, drinks are extremely cheap!
The Water House is actually Wetherspoons and it is fairly typical for a Wetherspoons establishment.
The interior is mostly wood, which gives it a very impersonal, 'plasticy' feel. There are 3 floors, the ground floor being the main floor, the upper and lower floors being more snug with booths rather then tables and chairs.
The food is ok, nothing special and the service is nothing to write home about either.
Their range of different wines and beers is pretty average, but they sometimes have nice guest beers in and good promotions.
They quite often have money off coupons in the Durham Advertiser, nice to save a few quid!
Run and operated by J D Wetherspoons, this is a typical Wetherspoons outlet. It has 3 floors with a couple more little rooms which are good for a more intimate dining experience, however it makes the place into a bit of a maze!
The food is typical Wetherspoons fare, and while it is a particualrly good example of their food, it's nothing special and the menu offers nothing out of the ordinary. They have a large range of different beers, with varying guest beers. They also have a good range of different spirits and alcopops.
Conveniently situated in the middle of North Road, it's cheap and cheerful, an ideal place for staring a night out before heading to Studio nighclub across the road.
Another place that google maps misleads on (It is notoriously bad with Durham Postcodes). The Water House (J D Wetherspoons) is actually located on North Road opposite Studio. It is big and very pleasant during the day with a wide range of drinks and the standard Wetherspoons food selection. In the evenings it becomes a good place to have a few drinks before heading across the road to one of Durham's Night Clubs.
