This Cantonese restaurant is a gem! On arrival, you are greated by the very efficient and friendly staff and guided to the bar area to peruse the menu. At first sight, it isn't the usual menu (no chips or prawn crackers!) and this is your first clue to the authenticity of this establishment.

Sat in the bar overlooking the dining area, you really could be in the Far East. The food is simply divine (the mixed platter starter an absolute must) and the service impeccable.

I cannot recommend this highly enough and is more of an 'occasion' place than your average Chinese Restaurant. As a previous reviewers have said, it is fairly expensive but in my opinion worth it.

Tips - book in advance to avoid disappointment, whatever the day it is best to check. Also, you may encounter some very dressed up customers so don't go too casual!

The China Rose reminds us what Chinese food is all about. Yes, you will recognise many dishes on the extensive menu but they will be head and shoulders above anything served in a lot of Chinese restaurants and takeaways! There will also be things you may not recognise, or have only an idea about, or have no clue about. Don't be afraid to ask - the staff are really friendly and helpful.

This is a classy joint, so wear something smart and it will add to the whole experience. But don't feel intimidated by the place. This food is excellent but not cheap, so don't forget you are paying for excellent service as well. Use the staff to help you chose from the menu, ask them to help you with chopsticks if you'd like to try them.

The restaurant is well set out and clean. They can host large parties or small, intimate tables and it does not feel overcrowded. Be sure to book.

A visit here is a special treat for me, and I always come away feeling I have had a treat. The ambience, the food and the service really are very good. It's just the wallet that suffers, but it's worth it now and then.

I grew up in a village a short drive away fro this place, but didnt pay my first visit until I was about 20. Its a surprising venue as its a very classy restuarant in a small town where you wouldnt expect to see a classy restaurant.

The food, selected from a menu which is pages thick, is wonderful and cooked to perfection. The service is never any less than professional, polite and friendly. The decor is classy, right down to the fountain in the lobby. Most Saturday nights you can get lucky and hear the piano (or harp) played softly in the background.

Its a popular place, so booking is advised. Its smart dress only too, which adds to the feel of the place and is welcome. Its also not cheap, so its the kind of place to visit for a treat rather than a casual meal, but its also well worth the money.

An absolute must visit, in my opinion.
