Reviews for Khyber Restaurant

Wow, what a rare find, a contemporary indian restaurant in croydon! no more searching central were most of the good indians are. This places gourmet menu is amazing i had a canon of lamb which was melt in the mouth tender and perfectly pink in the middle, my partner had the salmon steak which was so perfectly cooked and sauced i almost ate more than my fair share! this is definatly now my favourite place in croydon! Highly recommended.

We just came back from our first visit to Khyber and I just had to register here so that I could write this.

We were welcomed by very friendly waiters. The restaurant looked very warm, clean and well decorated, I would even say classy. The music was just perfect, not too loud.
I always like to try something new, so I followed the advise of one of our waiters and had the Salmon Bahar from their Gourmet Menu. I ordered some Chilli Nan with it. I could not believe my eyes when the food came as I had expected something else. The presentation was beautiful. I cannot find the words to describe the taste. It was an explosion of wonderful flavours in my mouth. The salmon was perfect, NOT dry at all and the crunchy cabbage salad complemented it well. It melted in my mouth and just thinking about it... I cleaned my plate with the Nan and actually licked my fingers.
I usually do not like creamy things but I tried the Passion fruit Mousse for dessert and WOW!!! Can a place really be this good??? Yes, they can. We will be going back in 2 days (Valentines day) by God's grace and I will order the same things.

Excellent food. Dined here with 11 of my friends and everyone was delighted with there meals. the portions were good, the flavours delicate and individual to each dish, and decor was stunning which creates a wonderful atmosphere, so i cannot recommend it highly enough!

Have been eating here for years with my parents, dont live in croydon anymore so its a real treat for us whenever we come down. Great food and service, cant wait to go back!!!

AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!

Here's why:

- Too cramped, with tables literally overlapping each other. If you want a relaxed meal with family, forget it - other customers and the staff literally step on your shoes all the time!

- Not too much choice compared to other half-decent restaurants in the area. Also, portions are way too small for the average price of roughly £7.00 a dish.

- The food does not taste that great - imagine having to request some sauce to go with sheekh kebab or other starters!

- WE (WIFE, KID AND ME) WERE ASKED TO MOVE TO ANOTHER TABLE IN THE MIDST OF OUR DINNER, BECAUSE "THERE'S A BOOKING OF SEVEN EXPECTED ANY MINUTE!", SAID THE MANAGER!

ONE WORD SUMS IT ALL - TERRIBLE!

this indian restaurant, is maybe the best in croydon i live in croydon for the last 5 years, and i allways remember that kyber as a good place to eat, they do an amazing chicken korma and and great chicken tikka. dont miss out good wine and great curry.

There are probably enough curry places in Croydon to eat in a different one every week of the year.
But Khyber stands out as one of the best, partly because of its delicious food and partly because of its prices.

Here you can eat some of the best Indian food you'll find anywhere in South London and feel you've found a bargain.

Recommended in national good curry guides, Khyber is definitely the place to head to if you're confused by the array of restaurants in Croydon.

When we visited with quite a lot of people at short notice, staff were happy to find a table for us amongst a busy evening crowd.

The menu has a huge number of choices including grilled meat, lamb, chicken and prawn curries and biryanis.

Khyber specials include lamb nargish kofta, chicken karahi kebab, and sabzi ghost, lamb cooked to a special "villager's recipe".
Unable to choose between everything on the menu I shared two dishes with a friend, one chicken and one lamb.
Our first choice was chicken kashir rezala, cooked with ginger, green chilli and Khyber's own blend of spices, which had just enough of a kick to it without being too hot to enjoy.
Lamb bhuna, was our other choice with delicious spiced lamb that melted in the mouth.
We also ate pilau rice, the perfect amount not to fill you up too much, and some saag aloo, the perfect accompaniment.

As lovely as the food was, there were many other things on the menu I would have loved to try too, ensuring a return visit in the future.
Staff are friendly and helpful, catering for the customer's every need and with detailed knowledge on all the dishes.
Of all the Indian restaurants in Croydon (and there are a lot), Khyber can definitely boast being one of the best.

The Lowdown

Food: Indian
Cost: Around £30 for two including drinks
Wine choice: Lots of choice to complement each dish
Vegetarian choice: Only three main dishes but lots of sides
Service: Very professional and helpful
Parking: On street or NCP multi-storey nearby
Disabled access: Street level and no stairs to toilets so shouldn't be a problem
Verdict: Croydon's finest curry!
