Prices are reasonable can get a great amount of food for around £8. get more then your moneys worth, staff are quick, beer is cheap. nice setting underground, can book tables there easily and a good night out.

I found the service and food to be more than acceptable. Some say it isn't required. But i assure you it is.

If you want an outlandish setting that is at the bottom of a set of very steep stairs, you do have to go to find Sloppy Joes american/ tex mex diner, on the high street, it is very easy to find, it looks small from the window that you see at street level, but is much bigger when you eventually get down those stairs.
The style of food is american/ tex mex fusion, includes a good variety of food choices and is of a fair quality.
The waiting staff seem to be trained to be very open and friendly, as if they know you, we were once served by a chap who was sporting an odd shaped carrot in his top pocket, who pretended it was the pen he used to take orders with. It was a bit of fun and we didnt mind it. They have some special offers on at certain points during the week that are good.

The sloppy joe restaurant and american style bar and diner is situated on the high street in busy colchester town centre. They do a good kids menu for £4.95 which has a main course, dessert and a drink. The meal deals are good as on a sunday kids can eat for free if two adults are having a meal, also between 4pm and 6pm you can get 25% off your bill during the week which is useful. It is a little hard to get in to the diner as you do need to climb down an awful lot of stairs, so is perhaps not for every one, but it does make a change, is reasonable value and staff are ok.

Sloppy Joes is our favourite place to eat in Colchester. The prices are reasonable and they have a good selection of Tex Mex dishes as well as pizza and pasta, including vegetarian options, and the portions are generous. They have special offers on mon-thurs nights where you get free desert or discounted second main meal which makes the price even more reasonable. We once sent in a letter of complaint after a not so good experience there which they answered in detail, addressing all of our points and sent us a gift voucher, so we felt as if our concerns were taken seriously and that we are valued customers. The decor is interesting if you like Americana. It can get very busy and noisy as they have lots of parties there, but that is mainly at weekends. It is not normally too bad during the week.

Sloppy Joes is an all american diner on colchester’s high street. I wouldn’t recommend drinking before you go, as to get in to the restaurant you have to walk down a massive set of stairs. It’s definitely something different as far as restaurants go, there aren’t many american style places in colchester so it has its place. I think it’s good for families with young children because there’s a real novelty factor, and they have balloons and sparklers, party poppers and stuff like that if you book a table or a function here. The food is really nice (as long as you don’t have to worry about having dangerously high cholesterol..) as a once in a while treat or party. A fun night out!
