Like stepping back in time a decade or so, this place is a real find - how a shop should be, small in size but packed full of interesting items and with good friendly service.

It's not the cheapest shop, but with a small Tesco just down the road it's still surviving, so it must be getting it right.

You can't get fruit and vegetables here (try the green grocer further down Crounch Street towards the Hospital Arms), and you certainly can't do you whole shop here but it's great for those bits and pieces that make weekends special.

The Cheese counter is very good, and freshly ground coffee is sold at the back of the shop. The samosa's and bhajis are good as are some of the sweet pastries.

We always make a visit before Christmas to make up some food hampers - they sell a wide variety (shapes and sizes) of baskets for the purpose. These make great presents which you can tailor to people's individual tastes.

They always used to serve tea/coffee upstairs at the weekend but I'm not sure if they still do this.

Well worth popping in to browse sometime.
