Reviews for The Minories
The minories is situated on the towns high street right down at the end of the road. It has a free entry policy so if the weather is bad or you are bored it is an ok place to go and get in touch with your artistic self. The best thing a few years back was a display or should I say installation, consisting of lots and lots of potatoes, positioned on the floor, think they were supposed to represent people, but any how I thought it was great. You wont get to see them now though they were made in to chips a long time ago. You should check it out it is a good place to relax and contemplate your more artistic side.
The Minories is a really bizarre little art gallery on the edge of town in Colchester. You would barely notice it, teetering by the entrance to the bus station - but make it your business to notice it, because it's a cool place to go if you're bored! Entry is free, and they have a good selection of displays by both local and national artists. They also sometimes have stuff by local schools, as well as photography and sculpture. Once, they even had a room upstairs with whole wall projections of 4 Palestinians dancing for hours and hours on end. It was captivating! Also, kept us out of the rain. There's a good cafe which although pricey, serves tasty food like soups and freshly made cakes. There is a cafe garden too which is nice and private, considering its location in town.
