Reviews for Colchester Zoo
The colchester zoo is one of the better zoos that I have been to and I am looking forwards to going again soon. I have been told that you can use your tesco club card vouchers here which seems a good idea. The zoo is quite large and means that you do need to do a lot of walking about. it can be really busy especially in the summer time but as it is open all year it may be better to visit at a quieter time. The hallowean nights are good fun for children but do wrap up warm as it gets cold.
Colchester zoo is probably one of the better zoos. It is quite expensive to get in but you can often get money off vouchers or use Clubcard voucers. Also the last time we visted it was raining most of the day so they gave us a voucher for a discounted next visit. If you can cope with the rain I would recommend visiting on a not so nice day, or during the week as it gets very busy on a nice weekend or holiday day. This can make it difficult for children especially to see anything as every window is crammed with people. Last time we went we fed the elephants practically a whole tray of food ourselves rather than having to wait in a huge queue. There are all sorts of feeding times and talks to go to- you would not fit them all into one day and you need to plan ahead so you can see everything you want to. Most animals have a reasonable amount of space. The elephant enclosure is not very big for their size and the giraffes, rhino etc. enclosure was a mud bath when we went, it must be hard for the grass to recover. Overall they seem to be treated well.
The colchester zoo has just got better and better over the years and is a must see if you have not already visited. it puts many other so called top zoos to shame. It has the most up to date enclosures for its animals and they are all well cared for. The zoo also is involved in projects to help animals in the wild in many other countries, which just goes to show how much the zoo and its owners feel about the worlds wild life. It is not too bad for price to get in when you consider that you can stay all day until closing time and still not have time to se every thing.
Colchester zoo, owned an run by the Tropeano family, is a wonderful day out. But be warned it is often very busy and as it is now so huge it can be a very long day for children. It has so much to see and do, a train ride, jeep safari, train safari, childrens indoor play area, lots of outdoor paly ares, cafes, shops etc. There are displays throughout the day in different ares of the zoo. Get a gold card if you feel you will visit more than twice it offers great value for money. Highlights are the under water tunnel wherr you get to view the sea lions, the edge of africa area which is fantasic, also lots of new enclosures to see like the sloth enclosure. Do go you will really enjoy it. 100%. Well done to the owners who ensure that this zoo is streets ahead of many others.
Colchester zoo is one of the best zoos int he UK and is widely recognised as such. Although the entry fees can seem a little on the pricey side, it is a charity and recieves no government funding. A bonus of its national recognition is that the tesco clubcard vouchers can be used to bring down the cost of entry which is a bonus. As for the actual zoo there are hundreds and hundreds of animals availiable to see and interact with. It is all well laid out and you get to have a good look at all of the animals (when they cooperate). A great day out for children and adults alike.
I absolutely love visiting colchester zoo, and i even have a gold card so that we can bring the kids several times a year without spending as much money (although when you take in to account the gift shop and the food and drinks...). one year we adopted a lemur as a present and it’s such a lovely thing to do because they put a metal plaque outside the animal’s habitat with your name on and the name of the animal that you have adopted. you get other bits and pieces as part of the package, and it’s a really nice gift because the money pays for the food and cleaning of your animal. Another great thing they do at the zoo is selling elephant dung! sounds made but it’s a real novelty for gardeners and works really well as a fertiliser. five stars!!
A brilliant zoo for family outings! Also quite cheap, keeping us all happy! :)
this is widely acknowledged as the best zoo in the world! having been to london zoo and other ones around the country i can say this is probably true. it's literally miles and miles of amazing animals which you don't get to see anywhre else - elephants, giraffes, orangutangs, bears, everything! and although it's around £15 to get in, you have to remember that it is a charity and has to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds feeding and maintaining the animals. it's amazing to see the animals in such good surroundings - the elephants have miles of land and a waterfall and stuff so it doesnt make you sad to look at them as they are so well looked after and take part in important breeeding programmes.
