An outlet of the popular Thorntons brand in the city centre on the main shopping street. Very busy at Christmas, Easter and occasions such as Valentine's Day. Very helpful staff are happy to advise on purchases and can also personalise gifts if wanted. If you are lucky you may find bags of 'mis-shapes' and broken bits near the tills which are sold off at very reasonable prices. Personal favourites include coffee and boozy truffles and also marzipan and dark chocolate bars although the latter can be bought in multi-packs for a more reasonable price at Tesco's. Readers may also be interested to know that Thorntons mis-shapes can often be bought for very good prices from the budget department store TJ Hughes.

Thorntons is a great place to buy gifts. They offer a free icing service and will ice a message of your choice onto any of their wide selection of chocolate animals, cars, footballs etc. They also offer a good selection of bagged chocolates at affordable prices as well as a counter where you can select individual chocolates to fill a box or bag. There are also a variety of chocolate lollipops, small bags of fudge and so on that are perfect for keeping kids happy when out shopping. My only criticism is that the wide variety of many of the selections can cause problems for people with nut allergies.

I’m always popping into a Thorntons to get the odd chocolate gift for someone because they always have something special available. However, they really come into their own at Easter when it is really amazing to see what they can do with chocolate. Besides the hand made chocolates, for which you will really be spoilt for choice as you try and choose which ones to have from the many mouth watering flavours that they have, you also have all of the various eggs and chocolate sculptures to choose from. Another good thing with Thortons is that they will help you really personalise your gift with a personal message of your choice, normally all included within the price.
