Reviews for Riverside Market
This is a fantastic place to pick up lovely fresh produce that is sourced locally. Often everything is organic and is quite well priced, some things more expensive than others. You must must must try the haloumi cheese and other delectables. The only down side is that the stalls are few. They sell foods and many different products that are of interest. If you want to put something back into the local people then this is a lovely place to pick up gifts or just tasty snacks for yourself! The market is open every Sunday from around 10 till 2pm but get there early for the best bargains and food.
Descending from Pontcanna like a pack of middle-class, hemp bag toting, guardian reading wolves, the gritty area of Riverside is transformed by the gentry of Cardiff every Sunday. Spinach leaves overfloweth, dirty bunches of carrots jostle with dirtier potatoes, and other seasonal produce gather together to form the Riverside Farmer’s Market. Alongside the achingly pc vegetable stalls are the artisan bakers, fishmongers, delicatessen, fast-food sellers (wild boar burger anyone?), curry van (for breakfast), cheese, erm, people, and other wholesome architects of change. Well it’s easy to be cynical if you can’t afford anything on sale, but it’s well worth a look anyway and a cheeky nibble on the free samples.
A small version of a farmers market organised and run by local residents. Despite being a bit on the small side, this market manages to fit in a fair selection of produce for sale. As well as meat, cheese, bread, cakes, fruit and veg there is a good selection of food ready to eat, great when the weather is a bit chilly. You can pick up anything from flowers to pickles, depending on the season of course. There is also a free bike watch area where you can leave your bikes in safe hands while you browse the stalls. A must see for anyone who wants local and home made foods.
