Reviews for Ha! Ha! Bar & Canteen
The food here is very good for a bar, but being primarily a bar the atmosphere isn't great so it's hard to recommend as a restaurant. However, if you're out for a few drinks and get the munchies their organic beef burgers are delicious!
The usual Ha! Ha! affair. Lots of people love it, some hate it, others are indifferent. I lie somewhere between these categories. The music is too loud, the drink too expensive, the food is alright, and the furniture quite comfy. The one in Cardiff is at the top of town, near the Hilton and on a sunny day (or should that be ‘the’ sunny day) it’s a nice place to sit outside with friends, drinking £12 a pop pinot grigio. I’d check out the website before you go, they usually have an offer on if you sign up to their e-newsletter, which makes it resemble good value for money.
I’ve visited Ha! Ha many times and have always had good food. The menu has a varied selection of starters and main meals with some unique choices available. The place itself is very large and can get quite busy in the evenings but its very pleasant during the day and early evening. I have had inconsistent experiences with the service, sometimes it can’t be faulted but on some occasions I have actively had to seek a member of staff out in order to pay the bill. The food however is very tasty and I’m yet to have a bad meal here. Has been recently refurbished but I’m yet to see the new look. ***
Ha Has offers good food and is in a brilliant location in Cardiff for people watching. I have been to Ha Has for both meals and just for drinks on a night out. The food is excellent and I adore the spinach and ricotta ravioli as it has the sweetest chunks of roasted butternut squash in it. The goats cheese starter was also delicious and rich.
The service is a little hit and miss and it is not overly obvious if it table service or if you need to order at the bar, I have done both. The food is reasonably priced for its quality and there are some nice wines. Get a spot by the window and you can enjoy your food while keeping an eye on the Cardiff folk going by.
There are some puddings I would love to try however I have always been so stuffed after my main I have not yet managed it.
I am aware that Ha Has has been newly renovated and it looks lovely from the outside although I have not ventured in as yet. I am sure this will only serve to make the experience all the better.
