Chapter Arts Centre

Reviews for Chapter Arts Centre

Chapter is a great place to hang out and enjoy the company of interesting people! The films they show are interesting and different from the other cinemas in the area, and cheaper too. By being a member of chapter you can get reward points and discounts too I believe.

I always find the staff to be very friendly and helpful when I have a question, even though they are sometimes very busy. The bar and restaurant area has a nice atmosphere, it is often busy and quite lively. I have eaten a few meals there and enjoyed them all – the food is not exactly cheap but it is delicious and well worth the money.

I haven’t had a chance to visit any of the exhibitions or theatre yet but I certainly hope to, especially once the renovation is complete.

The Chapter Arts Centre is a bit like the ICA in London (but different, if you catch my drift).

If you are a fan of art house/fringe style films then this is the place for you. They tend to hold various different film festivals throughout the year and many events that start in London make their way to Chapter in Cardiff at some point.

The bar sells different beers from across the world and is a local hangout for one of my Kiwi mates when she is looking for a beer from home.

Another mate rented the bar one afternoon for a birthday party and this was pretty cool. Its just shame that its a bit further out of town.

The Chapter Arts Centre, or Chapter as it is called here, lies in Canton to the West of Cardiff. It’s undergoing a major renovation at the moment so it’s not the lovely place it used to be, but the bar, cafe, cinemas and shop remain open – perhaps the theatre too, but I haven’t seen it with my own eyes. The bar is a noisy affair, even now that it has been moved into temporary accommodation it still resembles, visually and aurally, a school canteen, and sells an overpriced selection of beers, lagers, wine etc. The cinema is the main attraction for me, cheap if you book in advance on the website and showing ‘fringe’ films.

This place is rather fab. They have fantastic, unique exhibitions of modern art where you get a chance to see something really new. The films that they show are also excellent. A great variety of vibrant and unique films. They show very alternative and arty films, including foreign ones with subtitles that you won't see anywhere else! These are the kind of films that are beautiful but you would miss out on because they don't show them in other larger cinemas. The atmosphere is lovely, there's nothing commercial about it. It's relaxed, mellow and subtly artistic. A great place to go with friends or family and superb for anyone interested in little known films that are wonderfully made. I definitely recommend.

Cinema, Gallery, Theatre, Cafe, Bar, Shop.

I could easily write about each one of these sections of Chapter and give each one a glowing review. The cinema often shows films that you won't get in the bigger cinema's in town and seeing films here can be very eye-opening. The gallery feels modern and fresh, and has changing work often. To be honest, I don't think I've checked out the theatre before, but the cafe and bar are excellent. Chapter has a beer festival every year which is well worth a look, and the food at the cafe is great. The shop stocks a lot of quirky and cool things that you won't find just anywhere. As a creative hub in Cardiff, Chapter is doing everything right.

At the moment it is undergoing a lot of building work, but I wouldn't let that put you off, and I'm sure that the re-opening party will be pretty good fun!
