Reviews for Crumbs Salad Bar

A nice change and healthy too thats crumbs for you!
Old and young enjoy this cafe. They serve lots of different salads, soup, delicious curry and chilli, baked potatoes and more. Vegetarians and vegans will enjoy visiting crumbs, lots of dishes to choose and meat eaters will not be deprived missing meat once in a while. They are very popular for takeaways , seeming to have many regulars in the city.
Their food is filling and nutricious and tastes and looks good too. The cafe is a little hidden, but once found is a little treasure.

My wife and I occasionally go to crumbs for lunch and its always an enjoyable experience (well almost always)

Their food is healthy and there is a wide selection of salad items available. I have had soup there a couple of times and its always been delicious.

I am not really a salad eater but always enjoy crumbs salads and am not left feeling hungry ten minutes later.

Last time we went I had a veg chilli and it was hot, hot, hot. I enjoy hot thai food and this was unbearable so beware.

Other than that one occasion though I have always gone away with a full belly and a clear conscience.

Where do I begin?...

I first used to be taken there when I was a little girl by my grandmother and Mum, when there were NO other places you could go to get low calorie food.
There were ALWAYS queues and it seems that thirty years later there still are! I can just picture the huge bowls under the counter filled with different salads, and I used to love watching the women speed filling the habitat style wooden bowls for the customers, quite a spectacle!
The food was just just so fresh and delicious you could choose from the huge bowls selections of grated carrot, brown rice salad, green style salad, and more. Then the best bits...Hard boiled eggs, sweetcorn, grated cheese, peanuts, and their delicious pouring mayonnaise, which would saturate your delicious healthy pile. Then usually with eyes to big, we would also share seeded rustic brown bread, with (now heres a memory; an ice cold can of Fresca, which was probably one of the first low cal drinks).
We were always made to feel so welcome, by the lovely owner who became a family friend, (I even received a lovely card on my wedding day from them all x)
So through all those years it was my favourite place to eat. Even as an image conscious bohemian teenager, it was still the perfect place to be, as it always had a fab artistic feel.
I can't tell you just how thrilled I am that it is still there after all these years, and one day when I finally do return to Cardiff, I will certainly be calling in for lunch, and then probably taking away even more of their delicious fare away in those little plastic pots.

I do like this little coffee shop / salad bar. It is a quaint place with a nice warm atmosphere, somewhere that is not commercial or overcrowded. The price are good and the staff are always cheery and helpful. The food is fresh and delicious and the décor is simple and chic. I would recommend coming here as it's a lovely place to hang out and relax due to it's mellow atmosphere - it's quiet and peaceful.

Despite being set behind all the renovations of the old David Morgan and down an arcade this is a well established cafe. There are often queues out of the door at lunch times as it is one of the few places in town you can get a good plate or bowl full of good wholesome food. They are known for their bowls of salad where you can mix and match with one of the best rice salads I've come across. The seating is basic, wooden benches and and table but this fits with the simple food on offer. A good option for veggies who want something simple and filling.
