Opened in 2002 as a daily farmers market with onsite restaurant using the local market produce. Its evolution to include a ‘food hall’ reaching further afield to stock a fuller, more complete shop - has in turn lead to a greater turnover of fresh local produce and more British Cottage industries being bought to the consumer.

Super super super
Pure food porn heaven. Seductive merchants, people who know their stuff (esp the fantastic wine seller), delicious, super grub at the very highest standard. GRAND!
Eat a meal's worth of samples at the market (flirt if you have to) and then try the stunning restaurant on site.

Lovely
Can't add a great deal that the reviews haven't already said, except that the Goods Shed breakfasts are wonderful. There's a pretty good choice available - bacon, sausage, fried egg, bubble and squeak, scrambled eggs, inch-thick doorstops of toast, fried bread, mushrooms - all from the farmers market.
It's not cheap (normally 7-8 pounds for a decent feed and a mug of tea), but worth every penny.

This is by far the best place to eat that I know of in Kent. Fresh produce, simple style, great location, friendly staff.

Best place in Canterbury
What can I say? I have never had a better and unique dining experience in my life. If you want to eat here I advise you to book a table at least in a days advance. Right, where to begin? Its situated right next to canterbury west staion which is convenient for those coming to Canterbury to feast! Its in the Farmer market, so your immidiatly taken away by the raw/cutting edge approach this place has over any other. The menu is drawn up on a giant chalk board, which can change up to two times in one day! This place soly relies on the fresh meat/fish and Veg they have available on the day. Being the farmers market the produce is organic, the meat/and fish are from local farms (they can probably provide the miles their produce has traveled too). The food is the best I have had in Canterbury! The restaurant itself is in the barn, but has its own lifted section, where there are overhead heaters which do the job perfectly. The service was impecible. So friendly, in place that is full every night and has a buzzing atmosphere. The Chef, superb, even had the pleasure to meet! Such a vibrant place, it can only make you want to go back again and again. 3 courses set me back about 35, but well worth every penny(pigeon to start, belly prok, sorbet)! The wine they offer too is great and to top it all of, dont fancy dining in at night? Go during the day and feast on their sandwich's they have (very good). If thats not all enough to convince this is the place to go, then all I can say is your missing out!
