I've seen quite a few bands at the river and it's always a great show, nice and lively at weekends and relaxed in the week.

the food's pretty good for a mix of Greek and English and not overpriced either. their pieminister pies are the best on the menu.

never had a problem with service, the staff are always friendly and knowledgable about their spirit collection. top notch.

Abysmal treatment of patrons 8th February 2008

I have frequented this bar for several years and have usually found it to be pretty decent, but recently I was 'served' by an aggressive, confrontational neanderthal, who had nothing but contempt for every patron and became threatening, insulting and abusive when I ordered a dish clearly listed on the menu, which he claimed wasn't an option. When the chef corrected him he proceeded to treat me with disdain, to the point where I decided that the establishment was not worthy of my custom, and since he was apparently the manager, went elsewhere. If this idiot continues to pick fights with patrons, then I expect this bar will either be shut down or will go out of business very soon.

The River sells proper English food, in the form of pie or sausage and mash. They sell a delicious array of gravy and a selection of different mashed potato. It's great value, filling and a perfect place to stop for a quick bite to eat.

The pies they sell are Bristol's legendary Pieminister pies. They're they best pies around, so get down there and try them out!
