This pub is set in a beautiful location on a river. There is another pub next door to it (the chequers), but this is the vastly superior establishment. The pub is set some 25 ft from the water’s edge, with an attractive beer garden & seating area between the pub & the river.
The indoor area is quite small, dark & cramped, but that is not the reason for visiting this pub - the attraction is definitely the outdoor space.
The food is simple but enjoyable, and there is a good choice of alcohol. Occasionally there are barbeques held in the summer, which are exceptionally well attended. In fact, if there was any complaint to be made about this place, then it would be how busy it can get when the weather is good.
This is one of Bristol's rare finds, and is highly recommended.
