Formal fine dining - great for a splurge
Pretty formal atmosphere - although more relaxed (and better value) at lunch time when they do a set lunch menu. In the evening it's best behaviour time, but the food is worth it. They make their own bread and petit-fours and the most amazing amuse bouches. It's not very big and the tables feel quite close together when they're full. The service is very attentive, which can be a bit off-putting if you're looking for intimacy - but go for the foodie extravaganza and you won't be let down.
Shame it closed last year - new place coming soon though http://www.theargus.co.uk/news/businessnews/display.var.1914005.0.sams_launching_a_new_place.php
