Reviews for Yo Sushi
Yo sushi the great taste of freshly made japanese cuisine that is quick to order and never fails to please. So many dishes that I like that I may ramble on a while here but you need to get a fell for what is on offer here, so here goes.
From the belt you could try the salmon, tuna or assorted sashimi, or try the prawn, seared beef, or (not for the squeamish) octopus nigiri.
All are fresh and well prepared and hit the spot.
As the food travels around the conveyor belt and you sit bar style, you can see what is already made to go and you just pick what you want and eat, paying for the dishes you have emptied at the end. The prices vary depending on what you pick out to eat. It is a good choice for some thing a little different.
The Yo Sushi chain is getting biger and bigger, the trend for freshly made and artfully arranged mostly fish based food is nothing new but the arrival of o Sushi has made it open to everyone.
Even if you have little under standing of the way of the sushi chef, or the culture behind this great fresh food, it does not matter, as at Yo sushi it is easy to try it out and see if you want to go back for more.
The brighton branch is on jubilee street and is open till 11pm most days, from lunch times. You can pick out dishes that you want to try and then you pay when you have finished eating. The chicken teryaki is a good non fish dish as are the big selection of filled rice rolls or maki ( with or without fish fillings). The squid salad is another goodie.
Dishes start at £1.70 up to £4 or £5, so expect to be only half full when you leave.
This restaurant chain does have its detractors. Some see it as watered-down, Westernized, unauthentic, while others see it as laid-back, accessible, unpretentious. To me, it's the best fast-food restaurant around. The food is consistently healthy, varied, quick, fresh and tasty. I cant really fault any of the dishes on offer, and the service has always been great, even when the place is packed to capacity (which it often is at weekends and when they are running their mega-popular half price deals). Compared with some of the sushi bars I ate at in Japan, Yo Sushi does lack the obvious finesse and attention to detail that its home country delivers, but still manages to provide a decent selection of tasty Japanese food, reasonably priced.
I do miss the karaoke, beer on tap and floor-based seating found in its flagship Yo Below in London (sadly now closed), but the Brighton Yo Sushi has a relaxed, open feel to it. The staff are always helpful and friendly, and its always nice to see the food being prepared in front of you. Definitely worth a visit.
