This pub used to be pretty dire and depressing and was part of a Brewers Fayre or Beefeater type chain. We popped in for a quick drink after a walk on the Dyke to check it out as we'd heard it had had a makeover recently and were intrigued to know if it was any better. On first impressions it certainly looks miles better now with a chilled out contemporary feel whilst being pretty cosy. The set up is similar to before in terms of ordering food at the bar and the menu was still of the classic bar variety (Steak, fish & Chips etc. etc.) but we couldn't see any evidence that it was still part of a chain. We thought we'd give the food a go after we saw people around us eating what looked like pretty good meals. I can say honestly that the quality of the food and the service have dramatically improved and thankfully they don't seem to be charging over the top for the dishes on offer. Don't believe the bad press this place got before the recent refurb. Give it a go, you might be pleasantly surprised!
