I have been to this restaurant a few times and my god the food is awful, I have also been to thailand many times and know how good the food can be.
We went there last night and today we all have really bad food poisioning, the pad thai tasted fishy and they have a serious problem with overdosing your food with chilli.
Also the staff are all smiley to your face but watch them walk off and look pissed at having to serve you.

Also muang thai, you must avoid, A family member...

Also muang thai, you must avoid, A family member re decorated the restaurant and told me of rats in the kitchen and incredible filth. i visited him working one day and sore cockroaches crawling the walls.

I don't understand why have you gone there "a few times" if the "food is awful"? Sorry to hear about the food poisoning - perhaps you should notify the environmental health.

We actually went to this restaurant not long after coming back from Thailand and to our surprise it was incredibly authentic! All the dishes were fantastic, definately the best Pad Thai ive had in the UK. The King and I, isn't much from the outside, but once inside the decor is lovely. Unfortunately the building is pokey but the staff cope well with this: all dishes have to be transfered down from the kitchen by dumb waiter. It does get busy and at the weekend you'll almost definitely have to wait a substantial amount of time if you havn't booked ahead, but the staff are friendly and helpful. I love the outfits and the themed menu's as well, all adds to the experience! It is a shame they havnt a bit more space as it does feel like the table next to you can have a good earwig

One of 2 of my favourite Thai restaurants in Brighton (the other is Muang Thai). I have been here countless times because it is always a delight and consistently good. From the outside it doesn’t look like much, but don’t be put off because inside you’ll usually find it packed to the gunnels, and with good reason.

The starters are between £5 - £7 and often come beautifully presented with roses carved from beetroot and shredded cabbage.

Our favourite dishes include:
Thai salad with papaya and carrot – every few months we’ll have a craving for this sweet, sour and seriously hot salad and have to go back because of it.
Pad Thai - so many textures and yummy flavours in one dish! Superb!
Roasted Duck in Thai Red Curry – this has succulent duck, peppers, pineapple, and my favourite – rambutan, in a creamy sauce.
The King and I sorbet – they need to sell this stuff in tubs!! Expensive but worth it for the unusual sherbety flavour and it’s enough to share.

On Saturday night the service was quite slow, with them taking 45minutes to take our order, but we were treated to some traditional dancing which helped to pass the time!
Most of the girls who work there are very sweet and attentive but a couple of them sometimes seem a bit abrupt and snappish – I’m sure it isn’t intended though (I’ve witnessed a couple of the waitresses squabbling in Thai in the restaurant before!). The place tends to get pretty packed and although the tables are big, they are pushed very close together so you feel you are almost connected to the tables on either side. Not a place for a quiet, romantic meal, on weekends at least. Oh yes, and expect to sweat on a hot evening for it is very cosy - they do have air conditioning but sometimes you have to ask them to turn it on and then it's ok!
Expect to pay between £45 - £60 for 2 people (2/3 courses including drinks).
