Possibly the WORST restaurant I have visited for cleanliness, food quality and taste and ambiance.

I recently took 15 friends to Brighton to celebrate my birthday. Finding an exciting place to eat for 15 is a bit of an issue especially on a bank holiday weekend.

I was recommended Momma Cherries by a friend who went a couple of years ago - and I remembered it from Gordon Ramseys and thought it had character.

On arrival it seemed fine until they ushered us to a 'party' room upstairs among other rooms filled with crap. A laminate birthday message was on the table, some dried out yukkas in the corner which were actually brown and an old hi fi with scratched cds playing.

I knew I should have run then but they had already taken my credit card details incase I cancelled and they said they would take £10 a head off it.

We went for the £13.95 a head course and the food that came out was soooo poor. Catfish which was soggy, pasta salads which blatantly had mayonnaise in. Cake???? for starters Rissotos with tiny shitty prawns, ribs covered in red slime and even the macaroni cheese was souless.

every time more food came out it was a disappointment. The cd kept sticking, the room smelt stale and fusty and the food was atrocious!!!

We got espresso and sambuccas at the end to try and console ourselves and the espresso was brought up in cappucino cups and was not short - it was really watery.

The bill came to over £400 and I complained about the coffees and £20 was knocked off.

Momma Cherrie was seen telling someone what to do on the stairs but didnt make an effort to come upstairs and query a complaint. She obviously wants to get money it the till and isnt cared about the service.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING - should go back on Ramsey's ultimate nightmares - although I have the feeling that there is no hope for the quality of this restaurant to improve.

HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED

ps the only reason why I'm giving one star is because the waiter was a lovely young man!

Thanks for the tip off. I'm sorry you had such an awful experience, and on your birthday too, they should be ashamed. I'd always had my suspicions about Momma Cherri's, but I was considering giving a go. I don't think I will now!

No REALLY dont - there are so many other amazing places in Brighton - like Bills!!! Now THAT is a restaurant!!!
