Reviews for Koba
Went to a friends birthday party last night at the KOBA. I have been in a few times before, never had anything negative to say about the place.
Last night we were greeted at the front entrance politely and directed to the Ruby Room. There were two parties booked at the same time in the RR, my friend and other people were already there. A woman who was in charge of the RR came over before we had the chance to sit down and explained that we needed to be away from the seated area by a certain time for the other party. Although my friend had booked for 30 people we were given twelve seats.
We carried on with our evening, but as it got nearer to the time for the other party entering, the woman in charge kept on coming over and harassing myself and the rest of the people (her communication skills were appalling), ushering people in a rude manner. We were not left in piece for one moment, although the room was half empty we were still ushered standing in one corner of the room like cattle. The bar man was sarcastic to my friend, we were told that we could not take our drinks into the garden, for those people who wanted to enjoy their drinks with a cigarette.
Several of us complained about the woman in charge of the RR, but i doubt very much anything will be done about it.
Very disappointing indeed.
I recently moved to Brighton and was taken to Koba by a friend for christmas drinks after work and i have to say both the cocktails and service were fantastic!
We were made to feel extreamly welcome and the relaxed atmosphere along with the warm interior and wonderful drinks made for a very memerable evening.
Well done
My friend and i went on a recommendation, and were not disappointed. The staff were efficient and friendly and the drinks were delicious . Seems like a popular bar with a great atmosphere. Had a great night and look forward to next time were back in Brighton.
Don't go here! We had a very bad experience where we'd gone on a huge night out and must have spend at least ₤600-700 on cocktails between us all. The waiter didn't leave any snacks on our table so a work collegue picked some up on a table nearby, as we didn't have any(they were free on every other table). The waiter came over and asked he to put them back and don't steal!!! Er, how come we'd just spent so much money in there and we weren't allowed any?! All the other tables were pretty much empty of people by the way, we were the only group really keeping them afloat that night! He was a right bully. We won't go there again and I'd advise you to do the same. You can get better service ANYWHERE ELSE in Brighton.
Totally fantastic drinks and a cool place to be!
Without a doubt, my all-time favourite cocktail bar!
It isn't the easiest place to find - go up some narrow stairs to the side of Oddbins to the 'public' bar. There are two other bars, but they are open to members only.
Cocktails to try *:
Turkish Delightini - a clear martini, which smells and tastes just like turkish delight!
Chillihito - a mohito made with chilli peppers, has to be tried if you like the burn!
Strawberry Lemoncelli - I forget what is in it, but it is fresh - and seems *almost* healthy! ;)
And of course, the standard cocktails are of the quality you would expect from an award-winning cocktail bar! The long-island iced tea is wonderful, but avoid if working the next day ;) And my personal favourite - the Mohito (along with the marylebone variant!)
* probably not spelt right! ;D
